William Lafayette CLOUD and Nancy Elizabeth RUTHERFORD
Families of
Tom
Cloud
Home Page: My Family History (CLOUD /WHITTINGTON) http://genweb.net/~cloud/TX/
William Lafayette CLOUD (1851-1917) came to Center, I.T. probably before
the turn of the century (census records show him in Milam Cty, TX in 1880).
He had a cotton gin in Center, and purportedly owned property there. He
eventually moved to Konowa and Sasakwa.
William Lafayette CLOUD and Nancy Elizabeth RUTHERFORD had children:
Nancy CLOUD
William Jasper CLOUD
Thomas Marion CLOUD
Jake Washington CLOUD
William married again. He and Margaret <??> had children: Mary CLOUD
(m. HOPGOOD) children:
Calvin HOPGOOD
Dick HOPGOOD
... Mary then married George RAINES
John CLOUD (was County Clerk and also Treasurer of Seminole Cty, OK)
Alice CLOUD (m. Bill SPAULDING) and had children
Ruby Jewel SPAULDING
Sanford SPAULDING
"Sis" SPAULDING
This is about all I know about the CLOUD side of my family WRT Pontotoc County.
My grandfather, Jake W. CLOUD (above) (1879-1968) married Elizabeth "Lizzie" SEYBOLD.
The SEYBOLDs have quite a history in Pontotoc County. First, their family:
J.R. SEYBOLD (probably John) came from Illinois to Ardmore, I.T. and opened "J.R. SEYBOLDS GENERAL STORE" there. I have a picture of this store with him in front. Then, I am told that he bought a ranch near Antlers and called the "JR Cattle Ranch" though I can find no record of it.
J.R. SEYBOLD m. Amanda Elizabeth WELCH
** (apparently her father came to Ada early -- probably 1880 or so, but I have no real information on this -- I only have his photograph saying he was 58 years old in 1873.)
J.R. and Amanda had the following children:
Herman SEYBOLD
Theodore SEYBOLD
Idumma or Dumma SEYBOLD
Elmer or Elma SEYBOLD
Vitura SEYBOLD
John Zebulon SEYBOLD (1879 - 1940)
Lena Gertrude SEYBOLD (b. 1882)
Elizabeth Delilah SEYBOLD (1883 - 1965)
Arthur SEYBOLD (1884 - 1908)
John Zebulon "Zeb" or "Zeblin" SEYBOLD played the violin, winning a state competition. He owned a barbershop in Ada. He is buried in Memorial Park Cemetary in Ada (probably next to his second wife, Ollie).
He was twice married. First to Dora DEGARMO (1881-1909) in Ada 2-4-1902. I don't know if they had any children. Dora DeGarmo SEYBOLD is buried in Gaar Cemetary, I'm told.
His second wife was Ollie ENOCHS (1896-1979). They married in Ada on 1-20-1917.
She is buried in Memorial Park Cemetary in Ada. John and Ollie had the following
children:
John Edward SEYBOLD
Jay SEYBOLD
Irma SEYBOLD
Lyn SEYBOLD
Lena SEYBOLD married Alex STUBBS in Ada 5-18-1903.
My grandmother, Elizabeth SEYBOLD married Jake Washington CLOUD in Center, I.T. 9-14-1902. At the time, she was working for Jake's father, William Lafayette in their home in Center. I feel that this was during the time William had his cotton gin there.
Arthur SEYBOLD was born about 1884 (his marriage license says born in Georgia,
but there's some doubt as to the veracity of this). He married Denie D. CALLAHAN,
the step-daughter of Grundy CALLAHAN, on 3-22-1908 in Roff, OK. Nine months
later, he was shot to death by his father-in-law at his home in Roff.
See the newspaper article below:
===============================================================
Article from front page of Ada News of December 26, 1908.
"Sheriff Tom Smith took Grundy Callahan to Lehigh today , where applications
will be made for his release befor District Judge West on habeas corpus
proceedings." Stone and Maxey represent Callahan and prosecuting attorney
Wimbish will resist the application for bail.
"This case is one in which Callahan shot and killed his son-in-law, Arthur
Seabolt, at the home of the latter, near Roff.
"Judge West granted Callahan bail in the sum of $25,000.00 so the News is
informed by phone 4 o'clock by County Attorney Wimbish.

I'd be most interested in finding out anymore about my SEYBOLD kin -- especially any living relatives.
I'd also like to know if someone can research the murder of Arthur SEYBOLD (spelled SEABOLT in the Ada News) by Grundy CALLAHAN (Arthur's marriage license has their signatures -- I guess because Denie was very young ??? -- and their signatures look more like "CALLOHAM" to me. Grundy CALLAHAN's wife's name was Fannie (from the marriage license).
I have scanned photographs of John Seybold, J.R. Seybold's General Store in Ardmore, John Seybold's barber shop (interior view) in Ada, as well as others of tmembers of both families. I will be glad to share them with anyone that can use them.
