KINGFISHER is located 134 miles south of Wichita, Kan., on the C. R. I. & P. R'y, has a population of 3,500. It is the county seat of Kingfisher county and it is believed by many that it is destined to be the future metropolis of the Territory and the capital of the coming state of Oklahoma. It has a fine three story brick hotel; three banks enjoying a healthy and prosperous business; a large ice factory owned and operated by the Pabst Brewing Company; a unique little flouring mill; a splendid system of water works, a pretty little opera house; a half-mile race course; splendid public schools; extensive bottling works; two cold storages; two brick yards, one pressed brick company; three fire companies; two wholesale groceries; two cigar manufactories; six livery barns; six churches; Y.M.C.A.; the Territorial Congregational college has been located here, a healthy location and climate; official death rate only 40 per 1,000; good streets; several carriage and wagon shops, U.S. Land Office; but few, if any, men idle who are disposed to work; a stirring, progressive people and a bright future. For miles around she is encompassed by the rich and fertile lands of the Cimarron and Cooper creek valleys. On the north, south and east for a distance of more than twenty miles, there are no towns of any size to divide the trade, and on the west and southwest she has undisputed control of all the trade for a distance of more than eighty miles.
