MINUTES OF THE MOUNT PLEASANT CHURCH

Tomahushi  Jan 2, 1853

Session met and was opened with prayer.

Present Rev C. C. Copeland, Modr.

Elders:
Simon Mosely

George Hall and his wife Sholli who were suspended in Feb last appeared before the session and desired to be restored to the communion of the church. They both, having for a long time given evidence of penitence and the legal authorities of the county, having adjudicated their case, so far as it related to the laws of the nation.

Session Resd. that they be restored to the communion and fellowship of the church.

Mt. Pleasant Feb 26, 1853

Session met and was opened with prayer.

Sarah Lucas and Tennessee McGee, members of this church, came before the session and of their own accord, confessed that they had been guilty of unchristian feelings and hasty words in a difficulty produced by the misconduct of the husband of the latter, for which they professed penitence and hoped that Gad had forgiven them. The session saw nothing in their case worthy of discipline, but considered them as still worthy of the confidence of the church.

Thomas Bacon and Hoteli presented themselves as candidates for admission to the church. After examination the session having some doubts as to their religious experience, Resd. to defer receiving to the church till some future occasion.

Stephen Cochnauer, who had before conversed with the session, appeared and session, after examination, Resd. that he be received.

Tomahushi April 17, 1853

Session met and was opened with prayer.

John Ahlinobi presented himself as a candidate for admission to the church. After examination, Resd. that he be received.

Joseph Frazier and Sholli members of this church appeared and confessed that they had sinned by giving way to angry passions. They professed penitence for their sin and desired to be restored to the fellowship of the church. Resd. that they be restored.

Joseph T. Thrall presented a letter of dismission from the Wheelock Church with a request to be received to the communion of this church. Resd. that his requested be granted.

Stephen, Lucy Vaughn and Hoteli also presented themselves as candidates for admission to the church, but after examination the session on account of their defective religious experience Resd. that a decision in their case be deferred till another communion session.

Mt. Pleasant June 19, 1853

The session met, was opened by prayer, Rev. A. M. Watson, Being Moderator in the absence of Rev. C. C. Copeland, the Pastor.

Samuel Daily having been reported guilty of licentious conduct, was brought before the session, and after being asked if he was guilty, answered and acknowledged his guilt. Says he has left off prayer, but hopes to return. Not manifesting any godly sorrow, he was suspended until he does give evidence of godly repentence for his sins.

There being no others business, Session closed with prayer.

The session of Mt. Pleasant church met at Tomahuski. Rev. A. M. Watson, Modr. the pastor C. C. Copeland being absent. Organized by prayer.

Allaponta and ---- (one whose name we cannot remember) [Jimson Harlen inserted] presented themselves for admission to the church. After examination of their experience as evidence of a change of heart; the session thought best to postpone the latter and admit the former into the communion of the church.

Lafayette Mosely having been elected and ordained an elder to serve in the Boggy Depot Church, was dismissed from this church for that purpose.

There being no further business before the session, closed with prayer.
