Camp Near Fishers Neck
Sunday evening January 5, 1863

Dear Wife,
I now write you a few lines in answer to those I received from you yesterday. I was glad to hear from you that you was getting along so well. You say I must send your babe a name. I am too far from home to think about naming babies now so you will have to give it a name yourself. I am yet well as common but I am very deaf there is no chance for a discharge atall. They will not give one as long as a man can shoulder his gun so you need not look for me to come home no time soon. You wrote that your pa says if I can get him transportation that he will come and take my place and let me go home I can't get him transportation unless he was mustered in the service but if he wants to come I will pay his expenses. I have draw all my money up to the first of Jan. I drawed one hundred and six dollars the first draw and we drawed again yesterday and I drawed $22.00 more. You say that Miss Swan wants to know where Robt is he is at the hospital somewhere but I do not know where. I must close for want of time to write. Give my respects to all so nothing more.

YoursTruly

CPC McKnight
