Beloved Martha & Louisa,
I have not forgotten you nor neither do I ever expect to so long as I am permitted to have and keep my rational sense for when I am far away from you my thoughts are always upon you. I do not think that I have passed off one hour of time since I have been in the army, unless I was asleep without thinking about all of you. I very often think of my sweet little darling babe how she used to laugh and play around me but when I consider her end, Oh how happy I ought to be for I do believe her soul is now in Paradise and I only desire to be with her. Not that I think that I have done anything within myself worthy of such a great blessing but we are taught in the Bible that there is a mediator who stands between us and our god pleading for us. Yes he has born all our reproach and now if we will repent all our evil doings and turn away from them and believe in him who is able to save us from all our sins, then ____ will ________________________________ and in the end if we be faithful we will receive our everlasting crown of glory in the heavenly kingdom if it was not for the hope of a better world I do not know what would become of us, although we are far from each other yet we are still in the land of the living and while we live let us try to live as we ought and do all that we can to relieve each others sufferings then I ask of you let you voices be raised in prayer to him who rules all things to help us so to live that when we shall have to sleep the sleep of death that we may lay our bodies down in triumph over the grave.
