EVERY LIFE WAS A NEW SONG
Live, Love and Laugh

Obituaries can
provide not only the name of the person and the date and place of death,
but also information about relatives, military service, employment,
personal interests and achievements, religion, places in which the
individual lived, and place of burial. Some obituaries include
photographs.
Finding Newspaper ObituariesAn old obituary for an ancestor is a gem indeed! Locating obituaries can be a chore but once a find is made, it is well worth the effort. Start with what you know and work from there. If you can pinpoint the place of death, start your obituary search with newspapers in that area. Another good idea is to search the newspapers in the area where the deceased person's descendants lived. The Daily Oklahoman is the major newspaper in Oklahoma Co.
The following book may aid you in your search
and is available at various libraries including OHS Newspaper Room -
405-522-5223 The Oklahoma Historical Society [OHS] has a list of microform copies of earlier newspapers published in Oklahoma Co. A fee is charged for search/copies. A printable copy of their research form is online. The Downtown Metropolitan Library System has copies of current and back issues of the Daily Oklahoma and will do a search for a fee. Phone 405-231-8650 If you can't locate the obit and know the month and year of the person's death, you can order the death certificate from the State of Oklahoma, Department of Health. Printable forms with required fee information is linked on their page. Funeral Records may also be helpful, if you know what funeral home your family used. Various sites with obituaries pertaining to Oklahoma may be found online. Below is a list of those I've located. If you know of others, please let me know.
