RL Ashley, Jr., 83, of OKC, joined his
Heavenly Father on He was born Sept. 18, 1925 in Atwood, OK to Arlee
and Mary Margaret (Haines) Ashley.
RL proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and retired from the Air
Force. He married the love of his life, Emily, in Pensacola, FL on
April 7, 1949. He loved playing softball and continued playing until
the last two years of his life. RL taught high school in the OKC School
System, last teaching at Classen High School. He was a member of
Oakcrest Church of Christ.
RL loved his family dearly, and he will be greatly missed by many loved
ones and dear friends. RL was greeted at Heaven's Gates by his parents;
his brothers, Ernest, Terry and Lester; and his sisters who were twins,
Lilly and Willie. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Emily
Ashley; sons, Melvin Eugene Ashley and wife Judy Ann of Del City;
Harold Russell Ashley and wife Linda Gail of OKC; daughter, Sylvia
Dianne Coffee and husband John Anthony of Leesburg, VA; 7 grandchildren
and 3 great-grandchildren.
Viewing for RL will be Sunday 12:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Services to celebrate his life will be 10:00 AM Monday, February 23,
2009 at Vondel Smith & Sons South Lakes Chapel. Friends may sign
