McALESTER — Mike Barlow, 60, of Choctaw , died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at Midwest Regional Hospital in Midwest City.
The family will receive visitors from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Bishop Funeral Service.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Don Parr and the Rev. Fred Morrison officiating. Burial will be at Indianola Cemetery, Indianola, under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service. Military honors will be provided by the Oklahoma Army National Guard.
Born to Gerald C. and Eldred (Wimberly) Barlow, Jan. 16, 1952, in McAlester, he attended first grade in Indianola and then the remainder of school in McAlester, graduating in May of 1970. He attended Eastern Oklahoma State College. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1970. He married Brenda Cathey on June 2, 1972, in Indianola.
He served in the US Army/Oklahoma Army National Guard from 1973, retiring as Master Sergeant in 1994. In the military he served in the 180th Infantry, 445 MP HQ Battalion, 120th Med Battalion and as a recruiter. He served during the Panama Conflict, Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm.
He was a 32-degree Mason, a member of the Blue Lodge in Nicoma Park and the McAlester Scottish Rite. He was a lifetime member of the DAV. He was a member of the Oklahoma National Guard Association. He owned and operated Oak Ridge Rebuilders and Oak Ridge Paint and Body for more than 20 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Brenda Barlow, of the home; daughters, Mandy Leigh Barlow, of Choctaw , Nikki Hudson and fiancé, Kevin Conley, of Choctaw ; grandchildren, Shelby Lane Barlow, Justice Cade Barlow, Trey Michael Hudson, Emma KayLyn Hudson, all of Choctaw ; mother, Eldred Barlow, of Stuart; sister, Cindy Wilson and husband, Rick, of Broken Arrow.
And, brothers-in-law, Mark Cathey and wife, Jackie, of McAlester, Mike Cathey, of Chicago, Ill., Steve Cathey and wife, Pat, of Abilene, Kan.; stepmother, Virginia Barlow, of Hartshorne; stepsister, Leslie Chandler and husband, Paul, of Meeker; sister-in-law, Kathy Barlow, of McAlester; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald C. Barlow; brother, Chad R. Barlow; father and mother-in-law, Junior and Lorene Cathey.
Pallbearers include Bobby Joe Cox, Michael Cathey, Aaron Cathey, Ben Barlow, Steve Cathey, Jeff Wilson and Trevor Hudson.
Honorary pallbearers include Rick Wilson, Mark Cathey, Mike Cathey, Bob Patterson, Kevin Turner, Ronnie Smith and the Gas-n-Snack Coffee Shop friends.
Memorials may be made to the Youth or Children’s Ministry at the Choctaw Road Baptist Church or the Food Pantry at First Baptist Church of Indianola.
Brenda Kay (Cathey) Barlow, 69, of
Choctaw, Oklahoma passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023 in Oklahoma City.
The family will greet visitors from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March
21, 2023 at Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory.
A funeral service will
be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Bishop Chapel of Memories
officiated by Victor Wood and Rev. Don Parr. Burial will follow at Indianola
Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Shelby Barlow, Justice Barlow, Trey Hudson,
Bobby Cox, Kevin Conley, and Mark Cathey.
Honorary pallbearers will be
Jeff Wilson, Josh Cathey, Steve Cathey, Mike Cathey, Rick Wilson, Aaron Cathey,
Stevie Cathey, Mikey Cathey, and Ben Barlow.
Brenda was born to Bernie
Cathey, Jr. and Emma Lorene (Butler) Cathey on January 1, 1954 in McAlester. She
graduated from Indianola High School in 1972.
She married Gerald Michael
"Mike" Barlow on June 2, 1972 in Indianola. They had two daughters, Mandy and
Nikki.
Brenda attended Eastern Oklahoma State College and earned an
Associate's degree in Business. She then went to East Central University in Ada
to receive her first Bachelor's degree in Business Education, along with a second
Bachelor's in Elementary Education from Langston University. She taught first
grade for 25 years at Indian Meridian Elementary School in Choctaw, Oklahoma.
Brenda and Mike owned and operated Oak Ridge Rebuilders and Oak Ridge Paint
and Body for over 20 years.
She was an active member of Choctaw Road
Baptist Church for over 30 years. Brenda loved spending time with her
grandchildren, watching birds, and reading her bible. She was an avid reader and
enjoyed road trips.
She will be missed for all the love and care she gave
to her family and everyone around her.
Brenda is preceded in death by her
parents: Junior and Lorene Cathey; husband: Mike Barlow on February 16, 2012;
mother-in-law: Eldred Barlow; father-in-law: Gerald Barlow; and brother-in-law:
Chad Barlow.
She is survived by her daughters: Mandy Leigh Barlow of
Choctaw, Nikki Lyn Conley and husband, Kevin of Choctaw; grandchildren: Shelby
Lane Barlow of Choctaw, Justice Cade Barlow and girlfriend, Tailor of Choctaw,
Trey Michael Hudson of Choctaw, Emma Kaylyn Hudson of Choctaw; brothers: Mark
Cathey and wife, Jackie of McAlester, Mike Cathey of Chicago, Illinois, Steve
Cathey and wife, Pat of Abilene, Kansas; sister-in-law: Cindy Wilson and
husband, Rick of Bethany, Oklahoma; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other
family members, and friends.
