Hiram Sylvanus Smith

Hiram Sylvanus Smith, b. Nov 1, 1837, Williston, Chittenden, VT, was a U.S. Marshall, appointed in KS in 1886 and sent to Indian Territory, No Man's Land in 1887. The information is listed in the Beaver Co., Historical Books.

Hiram Sylvanus SMITH was the son of Hiram SMITH, b. 06 Jan 1807, Williston, Chittenden, VT, d. 21 Apr 1881, and Maria 'Mariah' HOWARD, b. 13 Apr 1806, d. 11 Apr 1898.
 
He married Ruth Amelia RAYMOND on Dec. 30, 1858, Floyd, IA. She was the daughter of Melanethon RAYMOND and Fanny. Both Hiram's and Ruth's parents are buried in Floyd, IA.

Hiram S. Smith served in the Civil War, Co. D. 4th IA Inf. His brother, Myron SMITH served IA 27 Inf., Co. G. Myron died during the war and is buried at Little Rock National Cemetery, Little Rock, Pulaski, AR. Ruth RAYMOND's great grandparents, John HOWARD of CT. and Eldad TAYLOR of MA. were Revolutionary War Patriots.

Hiram and Ruth SMITH had 10 children, one who was a court clerk in Beaver, OK during the early 1900s. There were 9 daughters and 1 son. Their first child, Henrietta died at a young age. The others (2) Ada (Addie) A. SMITH married Sandord (Sam) O. MILLS, (3) Elsie Grace SMITH married Bill WHITE, (4) Mabel E. SMITH married Ed (C.E.) PECKMAN, (5) Bertha SMITH married a DONNELLY, (6) Francis H. SMITH married a STILLWELL, (7) Beaula SMITH married Edwin Lewis MURPHY and lived in Pratt, KS, (7) Fannie SMITH married Robert McFARLAND, (9) Sarah Jennie SMITH married a MATHEWS and the only son, (10) Orin Douglas SMITH married Clara DRUMMOND.
Hiram SMITH died 28 Feb 1891 and Ruth Raymond SMITH died 09 Nov 1910. They are both buried at Pioneer Cemetery, Beaver, OK along with their son, Orin Douglas SMITH, d. 30 July 1920, and his wife, Clara
