J. D. DAVIS, 82, of Brooken died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, in Muskogee.
Graveside services are being held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Brooken Cemetery,
with the Rev. Don Duval officiating. Mr. DAVIS was born May 18, 1917, in
Brooken, to Drew and Ollie (McCLENAHAN) DAVIS. A retired deputy sheriff in
Pittsburg County from 1960 to 1977, Mr. Davis was also a bus driver,
businessman and farmer. He also received a commendation of honorary State
Trooper in 1984. He has one son and six grandsons serving as law enforcement
officers. He married Edith MADDEN Aug. 13 1935 in Brooken. Mr. Davis
entered the U. S. Army March 3, 1944, and served in Europe until he was
wounded in combat. He received a Purple Heart and an honorable discharge in
November 1945. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, deer hunting
and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Edith of the home; two daughters,
Inez DANIELS of Quinton, and Katy Sue SMITH of Oktaha; three sons, I.B.
DAVIS of Brooken, Bill DAVIS of Lequire, and Jerald DAVIS of Quinton; three
brothers, Jessie DAVIS of Brooken, Jack DAVIS of Priest River, Idaho and
John DAVIS of Sallisaw; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Skip Daniels, Mike Daniels, Joe Daniels, Ronnie Davis, Tommy
Davis and Darrin Smith. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Flying "U"
Hunting Club, Butch Daniels, Scott Daniels, specialist Micah Daniels,
Brnadon Mobley, Cornell Duvall, Mike Frame and Jim Kindred. Mr. DAVIS was
preceded in death by two sons, Hugie and T. H. DAVIS; four sister, Leona
DAVIS, Opal WILLIAMS, Violet DAVIS and Ina DAVIS; and four brothers, Gene
DAVIS, William DAVIS, Walter DAVIS and Buck DAVIS. Arrangements are under
the direction of Mallory Funeral Home in Stigler.
