Interview ?, Vol. 13, page 425
I was born close to the North Canadian River and have lived there ever since. My father was a big cattle man. His home cattle were branded "J S B" but the others were branded with a "Q". He was a Republican and fought on the side of the North. He used to go to Fort Smith for his supplies such as flour, sugar, and coffee. We had our own meat and things that could be raised.
My Stomp Town is Karledgic, three miles from Rayford. I haven't been baptised into any church but we go to the Arbeca Baptist close to Bryant. We had a meeting there last Sunday. My Clan kin is Bear, no it's Coon.
Fokke Cate is a plant that was used for red face paint.
Mekko Waneca was a medicine. Jensange was one that they would blow in and sing songs and drink it. The roots were boiled to make a tea. Men used the Kangarue Root to keep them lively and for their liver.
There used to be a post office at Clearview, one mile west of Okmulgee, but the name wasn't Clearview then, it was Springfield.
Waxie HARJO was a Light Horse Captain, of the Deep Fork District, or Okmulgee. He's dead now, I guess they all are.
I'm what you'd call a cousin of the rich Jackson Barnett.
I might be able to tell you something else if I had time but I'll see you sometime and if I think of anything I'll let Mr. Watson know and he can tell you.
