Charles Hilary Hilton was born January 25, 1871 in Louisville, Kentucky, son of Granville Hilton and Julia Doriot Stowers Hilton of Bullit Co., KY. Charles was the youngest of three sons. He graduated from the College of the Bible (now Lexington Theological Seminary) in Lexington, KY in 1896, and was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel at Broadway Christian Church in Lexington, KY, on June 9, 1896.

Charles went out west as a missionary for the Christian Women's Board of Missions in Oklahoma Territory, to help start and establish Christian Churches. He met and married Nettie Davenport, the 1st Postmistress of Davenport, OK in 1897. They made their home in Perry, OK while Charles continued to work to build new churches until 1904, when they moved further west to minister there.
