ROXIE MABEL (Phillips) BUTLER
Funeral services for Roxie Mabel Phillips Butler, 84, Atoka, were
conducted Monday, September 16, at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Service
Chapel in Atoka with Rev. Robert Umsted officiating.
Burial was in Tushka Cemetery under the direction of Brown Funeral
Service in Atoka.
She died Friday, September 13, 1996 at McAlester Regional Hospital
in McAlester.
Born April 12, 1902 at Purdy, Okla., Garvin County, she was the
daughter of James Phillips and Margret W. (Maggie) McCrea Phillips. She
was a member of the Wards Chapel Baptist Church and later attended
Pleasant View Church.
She was married to Joseph Ula Butler in Tushka on October 23,
1922. They owned and operated a farm and raised cattle.
Preceding her in death in addition to her husband, were four
brothers, Grover, Hartwell, Homer, and Lonnie Phillips; three sisters,
Mary Phillips Anderson, Addie Phillips Clark, and Fannie Phillips
Hawkins; and a son-in-law Eugene (Sonny) Blakely.
Survivors include one daughter Marcella Butler Blakely of Atoka;
one granddaughter, Marguerite Goodwin and a great-grandson, Benjamin E.
Goodwin, both of Tushka, one sister, Minnie Lee Bateman, Dallas, Texas;
one brother, Albert Phillips; Capitola, Calif., two special nephews,
Fulton and Grover Phillips, several nieces, nephews, cousins, other
relatives and many dear friends.
Pallbearers were Tot Calvert, Freeman Thompson, Milford Powell,
Will Goodwin, Walter Cooper, Danny Cooper, and Victor Lain.
