Fred F. Cullens
Waurika: Fred F. Cullens, 80, of Waurika, died Tuesday, July 31, in a
Waurika Hospital after a long illness. Service was to be at 11 a.m.
today in the Waurika Assembly of God Church with the Rev. John Douthitt
Jr. of Duncan officiating, assisted by the Rev. Cedric Fisher of
Waurika. Burial will be in the Waurika Perpetual Care Cemetery under the
direction of the Willis C. Worley and Sons Funeral Home.
Cullens was born Sept. 9, 1903, in Waco, Texas, and moved to California
as a young man. He had been a baker for more than 60 years, starting at
age 17 in San Antonio, Texas. He later became a partner with Gene Powell
in a bakery at Weatherford, and owned bakeries in Duncan, Clinton and
Fredderick. He owned Grandma's Donuts in Waurika for five years before
his retirement in 1981. He married Lovis Hembree in Oklahoma City, Nov.
9, 1933.
Survivors include his wife, of the home, a son, Dr. Fred D. Cullens of
Quannah, Texas, two sisters, Elva Subet and Elizabeth Hall, both of
Louisbille, Miss., and two grandsons.
Bearers were to be Tom Douthitt, Lloyd Turner, Ray Jackson, Dail Plant,
Henry Plant and Kenneth Rice. Honorary bearers will be men of the
Waurika Assembly of God Church.
Cause of Death: Cancer of Thyroid Gland, widely disseminated.
