DUDLEY NELSON LYLES
January 12, 1916—April 8, 1945
Dudley Nelson Lyles was born January 13, 1916 in Begota, Texas to
Mr. Jot Lyles and Edna Lyles, (now Mrs. C. F. Mead). Dudley was 29
years, 3 months and 4 days old. To that union was born brother Elmer
Lyles.
Dudley’s father and brother Elmer passed away in 1918. After
coming to Oklahoma in 1919, Mrs. Jot Lyles and Mr. C. F Mead were united
in Marriage 1921. Dudley became the step-son of C. F. Mead. Dudley grew
to manhood around Lane and Harmony communities.
Dudley was inducted into the Army on January 13, 1943, and saw
action in the Philippines, Luzon and Siapan. On the 8th day of April
1945, on Okinawa, he gave his life for the country he loved so well.
Dudley left a host of friends and relatives to mourn his passing. Those
who loved him were his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Mead, of
Lane, Okla., wife Minnie Lyles of Miami, AX; four brothers; Elmer Mead,
Pvt. Roy L. Mead who is with the Seventh Army in Germany; William Mead
and Arti Mead; three sisters, Mrs. Jessie Sheffield, Lane, Okla., Mary
Lou Burleson of Petaluma, CA., Rudy Curlee, Charles Mead, Oleta Mead all
of Lane.
Commemorative funeral services were held in Lane Baptist Church by
W. H. Goss, Attended by a great crowd of relatives and friends who morn
his passing.
