Mrs. J. C. Ray, Sr. Dies Here Today

Funeral services for Mrs. J. C Ray, Sr., 84, who settled at Reagor Springs in 1893, will be held at the Bunch Funeral Chapel at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Mrs. Ray died at the Ennis Municipal Hospital at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday after a week’s illness. She was born Melda Chaffin, August 29, 1866 in Itawambia County, Miss. She was married at Luka, Miss., in 1884 and came to Reagor Springs with her husband in 1892. Mr. Ray died there in 1943.

Survivors include four sons, J. A. Ray of Eustace; T. A. Ray, T. D. Ray and J. C. Ray, all of Ennis; two daughters, Mrs. J. L. Harcrow of Dallas and Mrs. T. F. Headen of Ennis; two brothers, Sid Chaffin of madill, Okla., and Garven C. Chaffin of Atoka, Okla.; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Jane Benich of Madill, Mrs. Etta Davis of Sand Springs, Okla., and Mrs. Sally Steele of Tupelo, Miss.; also surviving are 26 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

When she died, Mrs. Ray was making her home at 408 East Crockett St., in Ennis. Burial will be in Myrtle Cemetery in Ennis.
