William Edward Rogers (Rodgers)

William Edward Rogers (Rodgers) passed away at his home here on
September 25th . Mr. Rogers as far as was known had been in the best of
health and his sudden death came as a shock to the entire community.
He was born in Stringtown, June 2nd, 1883 and at the time of his
death had attained the age of fifty-four years. His parents Mr. and Mrs.
Walker E. Rogers were pioneers of Indian Territory, and his maternal
grandfather Samuel M. Rutherford was the first Indian Agent to the
Chickasha tribes.
On December 24th, 1905, he was untied in marriage to Miss Grace
Skelly. He was a true and loyal member of the First Christian Church of
Atoka since boyhood. At various times during his life time he was
engaged in almost every form of commercial activity know to this
section, including lumbering, merchandising. At the time of his death
and for many years prior thereto he was a salesman for one of the large
packing concerns, having a district in southeastern Oklahoma in charge.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Grace Rogers, two sisters, Mrs. A.
E. Cook of Oklahoma City and Mrs. Mamie Rosser of Muskogee, a
half-brother, John Cline of Durant and an aunt, Mrs. Cravens, wife of
Judge Cravens of Ft. Smith, Arkansas.
Funeral services were held at the First Christian Church on Sunday
afternoon, Reverend B. S. Smiser, a friend of many years being in
charge.
Pallbearers were Clyde Cooper, O. P. Slack, W. G. Morgan, I. N. Ables,
W. C. Turner, J. H. Hammond, Posie Howard and Arvard Hudson.
Notes: In the obituary for Walker Edgar Rodgers it state’s that
William Edward is a Jr. this is an error in Walkers obituary.
