Velma Elizabeth Taylor
Funeral Services for Velma Elizabeth Taylor, 82, Oklahoma City,
former long time resident of Atoka, were held Saturday, September 7, at
2 p.m. at Brown's Funeral Service Chapel in Atoka with Rev. James
Hearrell officiating. Burial was in Boggy Depot Cemetery under the
direction of Brown's Funeral Services.
A housewife, she died Wednesday, September 4, 1996 in Oklahoma
City.
Born at Daisy, August 14, 1914, she was the daughter of Esaw and
Ollie (Newkirk) Lowe. She attended school in Daisy and had lived in
Atoka County until 12 years ago. Her last 5 years were spent in
Southwestern Nursing Home. She was a former member of the Harvest Time
Pentecostal Church in Oklahoma City and later joined Abner Pentecostal
Church.
She was married to Alvin H. Taylor in Atoka on December 25, 1942.
He preceded her in death in 1984.
Also preceding her in death were her parents Esaw and Ollie
(Newkirk) Lowe, a daughter Maxine Hunter, a son Junior Ernest Taylor,
and one granddaughter Ruth Elene Cole; three great grandsons; five
brothers, John, Frank ("Bus"), Marvin, Ray, and Sam Lowe, one
sister Barzella Ross, a nephew Bruce Allen Ross, and two great-great
nephews.
Survivors include seven daughters Elaine Houser, Joyce Weldon, and
Susie Harris and Husband John all of Oklahoma City; Wilma Lowe of Atoka;
Bobbie Fisher and Husband William, Lorene Dunn and husband Jimmy of
Byars; Irene Hearrell and husband James, Ardmore; two sons Sam Taylor,
and wife Fern of Lindsay; Bill Taylor and wife Ann of Tuttle; 42
grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law Alene
Lowe and Tressie Lowe both of Atoka.
Honorary pallbearers were Eddie Maxey, Bo Hunter, and Harvey
Fisher.
Active pallbearers were George Ross, Charles Maxey, Jason Hearrell,
Ray Taylor, Raymond Taylor, and Jamie Hearrell.
