William Jasper "Bill" Nelson, age 91, of New Plymouth, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, at Countryside Manor in Payette. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, New Plymouth, with Elder Burton Baughman officiating. Interment will follow at Park View Cemetery, New Plymouth. Friends may call today from 3 to 8 p.m. at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel in New Plymouth.
Bill was born May 13, 1911, in Gate, Okla., to Luther and Lois (Cunningham) Nelson. The family moved to Colorado where Bill met Ethel Shippy. Bill and Ethel were married on Oct. 7, 1933, in Kiowa, Colo. After moving around for a few years the couple bought a farm near New Plymouth, Idaho. Bill was a farmer in the area for the past 60 years. Bill was a faithful member of Community of Christ Church for over 50 years. He cherished time spent with his family, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Bill is survived by one daughter, Delores Barnes of New Plymouth; two sons, Brooks Nelson of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Willard Nelson of Independence, Mo.; one sister, Audrey Gilchrist of Brush, Colo.; six grandchildren, Susan Barnes, Gary Barnes, Brian Nelson, Amy Lamont, Steve Nelson, and Teri Rankin; seven great-grandchildren, Todd, Jennifer, Amber, Sarah, Moriah, Kristen and Kelcey; seven half brothers and sisters; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ethel passed away in 1978. Bill was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Van Nelson and Merle Nelson; one sister, Martha Nelson; and one half sister, Elsie Dewey.
