CAREY
CHECOTAH - Ollie Mae Bittle CAREY was born June 13, 1925, in Pierce. She
died in September 2001. Funeral services were held September 6, 2001, at
the First Baptist Church in Checotah. Officiating the services were Rev.
Wayne Brown, Rev. Bill Sherril, and Rev. Harry Dodd. Pallbearers were Don,
Jay, Jim, Robert, and Bill Bittle, Dr. Bill Winter, Johnny Carey and Ed
Working.Interment was at Greenlawn Cemetery.
She graduated as salutatorian from Pierce High School and from Northeastern
Teachers College, earning the most outstanding record and a Bachelor
of Arts degree in education, with a major in mathematics. She taught school
until 1951 when she married Ramond CAREY at Checotah. She joined the church
at age 12 and remained active in the First Baptist Church for 48 years. She
taught different classes throughout her life and was the senior adult
womens teacher when she became ill. She also was active in numerous
community
organizations: McIntosh County Homemakers Club, Girl Scout leader, book reviewer
and member of Chapter BX of P.E.O. since 1963, and she was a founding member
of the Katy Depot Museum.
She was survived by her husband of the home, two sons, Dr. John Christopher
CAREY of Phoenix, AZ, and Mitchell Porter CAREY of Edmond; two grandson;
two granddaughters; four brothers, Jim LITTLE of Checotah, Robert BITTLE
of Tulsa, Don BITTLE of Preston; three sisters, Norma WINTER of Bartlesville,
Dr. Cheryl BITTLE of Portland, OR, and Ina BITTLE; numerous nieces and nephews
and a host of friends.
ELLIS
OKMULGEE - Jacob B. ELLIS was born October 14, 1918. He died December 6,
2002. Graveside services were held December 7 at Bald Hill Cemetery.
He was the son of Abner Doolie and Nellie Bruner ELLIS. He was a inventor
and held three patents. He was a rancher, a farmer and was a retired heavy
equipment operator for the City of Tulsa. He was a a World War II Veteran.
a graduate of Oklahoma State Technical School, an artist and instructor,
counselor, and friend to many.
He was survived by his wife, Laurabelle Elizabeth (maiden name not given);
his son, Michael Anthony ELLIS; and siblings Lilllian, Willie, Richard, Dorothy,
Nellie, Pandora and Andrew.
HARJO
DUSTIN - Eugene HARJO, Sr., was born April 7, 1945 in Talihina. He died in
November, 2002. Funeral services where held November 23 at Thewarley Methodist
Church with Rev. Malcolm Tiger and Rev. Alex Lowe officiating. Pall bearers
were Kevin Atchico, Bear McClain, Legus Barnett, Roger Butler, Jack Yargee,
and Harry Harjo. Honorary pall bearers were George Cook, Bobby Yargee, Roley
Johnson, Curtis Smith, Turner Scott and John King. Interment was the Johnson
Family Cemetery.
He was raised in the Ragtown area and attended Moss School where he was active
in Baseball. He also attended Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kansas
where he played football. He graduated from Haskell in 1964, joined the Army
and served from 1964 to 1966. He was a welder and joined General Motors when
it opened and worked
there until his retirement.
He married Linda Gouge and was an active member in Thewarley Methodist Church
and also supported Alabama/Quassarte. He was an avid University of Oklahoma
fan, coached his sons little league team and was a football chain gang
for Crooked Oak High School during his sons football years there.
He was the son of Wade and Linda Johnson HARJO, who preceded him in death.
Three of his siblings also preceded him in death, brother Marcey HARJO, and
two sisters, Diane Harjo LOWE and Lydia Harjo BLUEBOOK.
His survivors include son, Eugene HARJO, Jr.; three daughters, Teresa NOTCH,
Callie GARCIA and Jessica STEWARD, all of Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren;
four sisters, Anna SMITH and Eliza BARNETT both of Wetumka; Donna HARJO of
Mt. Juliet, TN, and Florence ATCHICO of Harrah; two brothers, Willie HARJO
of Chelsea and Jimmy HARJO of Wetumka; several nieces and nephews; and a
host of relatives and friends.
HARJO
HANNA - Margaret Ann HARJO was born October 4, 1936, in Hanna. She died in
November, 2001. Funeral services were held November 17 at Hillabee Baptist
Church, officiated by Rev. Gene HARJO and Rev. Robert Berryhill. Pallbearers
were James Buckner, Victor Davis, George Factor, John Hill, Jackson Hill,
Brian Postoak, Billy Don Scott, and James Shaw. Interment was at Hillabee
Cemetery.
She enjoyed sewing baby blankets, attending stomp dances, and spending time
with and taking care of her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sampson and Roseanna Brown HILL;
two brothers, Jackson HILL and John HILL. She was survived by her husband,
Jackson HARJO, whom she married June 25, 1954, in Oklahoma City; her daughter,
Patricia Ann HARJO of Wetumka; three sons, Silas HILL of Wetumka, Jackson
HARJO, Jr., of Horton, KS, and Marcus Wayne HARJO of Tecumseh; two brothers,
Wilson HILL and Benjamin HILL, both of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren
and one great granddaughter.
JOSHUA
OKMULGEE - Lee Roy JOSHUA was born October 11, 1937, in Holdenville. He died
in October, 2001, and funeral services were held October 12 at Belvin Baptist
Church. Officiating were Rev. David Deere, Rev. Sonny Bear, Rev. Malcolm
Tiger and John Buckner. Pallbearers were Steve Mangum, Rick Powell, B.J.
Wagoner, Sammy Howell, Mike Tiger, and W. E. Howell. Honorary pallbearers
were Stanley Harjo, Sam Beaver, Jr., Albert Tyson, Anthony Beaver, Mitchell
Dean Littlehead, and Louis Scott, Jr. Interment was at Tallahasse Methodist
Church Cemetery.
He was the son of Edmond, Sr., and Dorothy Tiger JOSHUA. He attended Many
Springs Baptist Church in Holdenville and was a lifetime resident of Okmulgee.
He was a self-taught artist who worked in oils, pastels, tempra, watercolors
and sculpted in bronze. His work has been displayed in museums and
galleries
throughout Oklahoma and various other states: Oklahoma Historical Museum,
Oklahoma City; Creek
Council House Museum, Okmulgee; Five Civilized Tribes Museum, Muskogee; Red
Cloud Museum, Pine
Ridge, SD; Tagachady Gallery, Chattanooga, TN; Elaine Horwich Galleries,
Scottsdale, AZ; White Buffalo
Gallery, Wichita, KS; Oklahoma Art Gallery, Oklahoma City; and Two Feathers
Gallery in Siloam Springs, AR. He has received art awards in many art shows
at these museum, as well as from the Heard Museum Guild, Scottsdale National
Art Show, Albuquerque State Fair, and Intertribal Indian Ceremonial, Gallup,
NM.
He was survived by his wife, Lucille of the home, and others (relationship
not given): Lee JOSHUA, Jr.; Lloyd and Lawanna BEAVER; Richard and Betty
BEAVER all of Okmulgee; Ward and Laura BEAVER of Morris; Sherri JOSHUA; Siadienia

STEWART
OKEMAH - Isaac DeVaughn STEWART was born and died on November 28, 2001. He
was the son of Kelly STEWART and Denise HICKS of Oklahoma City. Funeral services,
officiated by Rev. Wayne Harjo, were held December 6 at Buckeye Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were Justin HICKS and Jeremiah STEWART. Honorary pallbearers
were Ryan and Simon Hicks. Interment was at the Hicks Family
Cemetery.
Preceding him in death were is maternal grandparents, Norma Jean HICKS and
Wessie GRAMMER; paternal great grandmother, Jeanne Vee RICHMOND; paternal
;great-great grandparents, L. T. and Rosalee PIGGIE. Survivors include his
parents, half-brother, Carlos STEWART; half sister Celeste STEWART, both
of Depew; maternal grandfather, Branson HICKS of Okemah; paternal grandparents,
Ralph and Christina STEWART, Sr., of Chandler; eight uncles, three aunts
and many cousins.
TIGER
TULSA - Lena Carr TIGER was born March 21, 1913. She died November 24, 2001.
Funeral services were held November 26 at Jenks Regular Baptist Church,
where she was a member, with Rev. Troy Hayes officiating. No other information
was available on the services, other participants or place of interment.
Tiger liked horses and enjoyed attending rodeos. In her earlier years, she
played baseball and softball and was a member of one of the first womens
baseball teams from Liberty Mounds. She later established and sponsored
womens softball teams. She was interested in collecting antique jewelry
and attending flea markets.
Preceding her in death were her husband, George TIGER and a son, Benny TIGER.
She was survived by her sons Connie Mack TIGER and Daniel TIGER, her daughters
Delores FREEMAN and Jane CORNELL, all of Tulsa; four grandchildren, two
great-grandchildren and a sister, Emma MARSHALL of Liberty Mounds.

HARJO
WICHITA, KS - Virgil Blue HARJO was born July 25, 1924, at Henryetta.
He died in November 2001. Funeral services were held November 30 at the Wichita
Indian United Methodist Church, where he was a member. No other information
was given on funeral services, participants or place of interment.
Harjo attended Euchee Indian Boarding School and Haskell Indian School, where
he lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. He served in the Navy
during WW II and finished high school after his tour of duty. He worked at
Coleman Company, Cessna Aircraft, Boeing Aircraft, Chilocco Indian School
and retired in 1991 from Learjet. He was a member of the local Veterans of
Foreign Wars Post, the American Legion, and Pine Bay Mens Golf Club.
He and his wife enjoyed playing golf together.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Geraldine CERRE, whom he had married
May 19, 1943, in Newkirk; his parents, Chaparney and Rose Kernel HARJO; a
brother, Jessee HARJO; and a sister, Lily. He was
survived by his son, Gerald Blue HARJO, and his daughter, Elizabeth HARJO,
both of Wichita; his sister, Mary Jane BLACK of Pawnee; three grandchildren
and five great-grandchildren.
WARE
MADERA, CA - Wayland WARE was born January 4, 1916, in Bristow. He died November
16, 2001, at the Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital, Auburn, CA. Funeral services
were held November 20 at the Arbor Vitae Cemetery, with Rev.Dwight Koopmans
officiating.
Ware attended Pine Hill Grade School and Olive High School where he was on
the basketball team. He met his wife, Mildred Ruth LOW of Broken Arrow, while
he was working at the CCC Camp. They were married June 29, 1935. He spent
most of his life on the west coast in Oregon and California. He retired from
McDonnell-Douglas in 1975. He enjoyed repairing old furniture, going to swap
meets and garage sales, restoring old cars, working in his yard, doing jigsaw
puzzles, collecting Indian artifacts and watching college football.
Preceding him in death were his grandmother, Julia Carter SKEEN; his parents,
Henderson and Lula WARE; brothers Oren WARE, Flaxie HARJO, and Richard HARJO,
his sisters, Iva WARE and Juanita
JONES; and his daughter, Norma WARE. Survivors include his wife of Grass
Valley, CA; his sister, Lorene DASHER and brother, Otis HARJO, both of Madera,
CA; his sons, Gary HARJO of Grass Valley and David HARJO of Honolulu, HI;
grandchildren, Kary of Stockholm, Sweden, Paul of Honolulu and Cynthia of
Auburn.
WASHINGTON
MUSKOGEE - Billy WASHINGTON, Jr. was born February 5, 1959, in Tahlequah.
He died December 12, 2001, at St. Johns Medical Center, Tulsa. Funeral
services were held December 15 at Butler Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Norman
Daniels and Rev. Woody Wilson officiated. Pallbearers were his nephews: Michael
WASHINGTON, Derrick WASHINGTON, Chris WASHINGTON, Thomas ADAIR, Thomas WILSON,
Ray DEARMAN and Brian McBRIDE. No information was given on the place of
interment.
He was preceded in death by his father, Billy WASHINGTON, Sr.; maternal
grandparents, Rev. Lee and Katie WOLF; and his paternal grandparents, Thomas
and Martha WASHINGTON. He was survived by his mother, Susie WASHINGTON; two
brothers, Mike WASHINGTON and James WASHINGTON, both of Muskogee; two sisters,
Cindy DANIEL and Pamela WILSON, both of Muskogee; one uncle, Rev. Robert

WASHINGTON
MUSKOGEE - James Keith WASHINGTON was born August 4, 1962, in Tahlequah.
He died December 16, 2001. Funeral Services were held December 19 at Butler
Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Norman Daniel and Rev. Woody Wilson officiated.
Pallbearers were his nephews Michael WASHINGTON, Derrick WASHINGTON, Chris
WASHINGTON, Thomas ADAIR, Thomas WILSON, Ray DEARMAN, and Brian McBRIDE.
No information was given on the place of interment.
Washington grew up in Muskogee and attended Muskogee and Oktaha schools.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Billy WASHINGTON; brother Billy
WASHINGTON; son, James WASHINGTON, Jr.; his maternal grandparents, Rev. Lee
and Katie WOLF and his paternal grandparents, Thomas and Martha WASHINGTON.

WILSON
EUFAULA - Charles Osce WILSON was born January 13, 1972, at Tahlequah. He
died December 10, 2001. Funeral services were held December 15 at Tuskegee
Baptist Church, where he was a member,
officiated by Rev. Ruben Kenney and Rev. Ernest Marshall. Pallbearers were
Spencer McIntosh, Tyler McIntosh, Eli McIntosh, Shannon Shackelford, A.J.
Jones, Chad Lemasters, Chebon Abernathy, Tvse Wilson, Barry Wilson, and Julea
Wilson. Honorary pallbearers were the 1990 Eufaula High School Ironhead football
team and coaches. Interment was at the Marshall Family Cemetery.
He graduated from Eufaula High School and was a member of the Ironhead football
team. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp from November 1990 to his honorable
discharge in August 1998. He was a firefighter with the BIA/Muscogee Nation
Fire Supression Program.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Alfred and Ruth WILSON; maternal
grandfather, Ben MARSHALL; aunt, Sue BIBLE; and his uncle, Homer WILSON.
He was survived by his parents, Kenneth and Sandra Marshall WILSON of Tulsa
and Eufaula; maternal grandmother, Henryetta MARSHALL of

BROOKS
HOLDENVILLE - Sam Brooks was born April 15, 1918 in Wetumka. He died in March
2002. Funeral services were held March 8 at Hudson-Phillips Chapel with Rev.
Eugene Harjo and Rev. Joe Lowe Jr. officiating. Pallbearers were Frank Lowe,
James Lowe, Jerry Lowe, Mitchell Musgrove, Harry Walker and Roley Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers were Ben Marney, Angel Lowe, Dana Musgrove, and Dan
Narcomey. Interment was at the Holdenville Cemetery.
Brooks served n the Army during WW II and earned a Purple Heart. He was raised
in Wetumka and attended school at Greasy Creek. He married Elizabeth LOWE
July 3, 1957, in Holdenville. He worked in
the construction industry and enjoyed working in leather crafts, fishing
and watching sports.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Anne BIRD and Joe BROOKS, one brother
and one sister. He was survived by his wife, one sister, Evelyn McGIRT of
Holdenville; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
DUKES
EUFAULA - Funeral services for Nathan Scott DUKES were held February 24,
2002, at Gregg Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Gary and Mary Gregg. No
information was given on the date or place of birth, nor the date and place
of death. Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery.
He was survived by his parents, Tammy Marie NIXON and Todd Allen DUKES;
grandparents, Eve and Mike SMITH, Freddy and Mary NIXON, Beverly STASEL and
David DUKES; cousin Matthew VAUGHN; and aunts and uncles, Shelly and Allen
VAUGHN, Kenneth NIXON, Nicole SMITH and Ashley
NIXON.
HARJO
OKEMAH - Johnson Jensen HARJO was born January 18, 1907, west of Okemah.
He died around the beginning of April, 2002. Funeral services were held April
6, 2002, in Schumacher Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. John Lowe officiated. No
information was given on pallbearers. Interment was at the Harjo Family Cemetery.
He lived in Okemah most of his life, served in the Army during WW II and
was a rancher and farmer. He was in the Color Guard for Creek Nation and
a former member of the American Legion. He was WIND
CLAN, NUYAKA Tribal Town, and an ordained Deacon in Greenleaf Baptist Church.
He recently attended the Prairie Springs No. 2 Church.
He was preceded in death by one son, Geronimo HARJO; one daughter, Alice
ROBERTS; two brothers, Abner HARJO and Josiah HARJO; and two sisters, Lizzie
Harjo ROBINSON and Melissa TIGER. He is survived by six daughters, Geneva
HARJO and Augustine HARJO, both of Okemah, Delores BONITZ of Okmulgee, Betty
WHITEBIRD and Esther COLLINS, both of Oklahoma City, and Bonnie THOMPSON
of San Francisco, CA; grandchildren and great grandchildren; and numerous
other family and friends.
JAMES
ARKANSAS CITY, KS - Willie Bummie JAMES was born February 6,
1919, in Depew. He died in February 2002. Funeral services were conducted
on February 20 at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home by Rev. Willie McCaslin of Mounds.
No information was given on pallbearers or place of interment.
James attended Euchee Indian Mission School from 1926 to 1936. He graduated
from Ft. Wingate (NM) High School in 1939 where he was active in football
and track. He served in the Army 8th Air Force Bomb Squad from 1940 to 1944.
He was a B-17 ball turret gunner and flew twenty-five bombing missions over
Germany. He worked as a bus driver for the Bureau of Indian Affairs at Chilocco,
retiring in 1987. He was a championship bowler, winning several Indian bowling
titles in Oklahoma and one title in Los Angeles, CA.
He was a member of the TIGER CLAN, and the KELLYVILLE EUCHEE Ceremonial Ground.
He married Imogene SCUGGINS August 24, 1944, in Gallup, NM, and they made
their home in Miami, OK, until moving to Arkansas City in 1960.
Preceding him in death was his parents, John Henry JAMES (Zondeoteetay) and
Lucy Tiger JAMES; his wife; his son Jimmie JAMES; a brother, Jesse JAMES;
sisters, Stella FANNIN and Juanita BROWN; and half brothers, John Dee and
Page.
He was survived by his son Gary JAMES of Arkansas City; daughter
Virginia MOLLER of Tuba City, AZ; half sisters Mary SMITH and Birdie McCASLIN
of Mounds; granddaughters Mardee DeSANTIS of Columbus, OH, Kelli YOST and
Jodie JAMES of Arkansas City; and
one great-grandson.
MCINTOSH
EUFAULA - Louis Yahola Henry MCINTOSH was born April 15, 1932,
in Eufaula. He died in March, 2002. Funeral services were conducted by Rev.
Raymond Beaver on April 4 at First Free Will Baptist Church. Pallbearers
were George McIntosh, Ricky McIntosh, Cornelius McIntosh Jr., Louis Postoak,
Gary Jim, and William Spain. Interment was at the McIntosh Family Cemetery.
McIntosh served in the Army from 1953 to 1955 and remained in the Reserve
until 1961. He was a retired welder and affiliated with the West Eufaula
Indian Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents, George W. McINTOSH and Ethel Scott
McINTOSH, and brothers Luke Scott MCINTOSH, Red Eagle MCINTOSH, and Alfred
Frank MCINTOSH. He was
survived by one brother, Cornelius and Gerilyn MCINTOSH of Oklahoma City,
and two sisters, Ethel PITTMAN of Stedham and JoAnn VOICE of Stringtown.
MCINTOSH
EUFAULA - Red Eagle MCINTOSH was born November 24, 1932, in Eufaula. He died
in March, 2002. Funeral services were held April 4 at First Free Will Baptist
Church, officiated by Rev. Buddy Powell.
Interment was at the McIntosh Family Cemetery.
McIntosh served in the U.S. Army from 1947 to 1952, including a tour of duty
in Korea. He was a truck driver employed by J.M.s Restaurant before
he retired. He was a member of the Eufaula VFW Post 8798 and the Elm Grove
Assembly of God Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents, George W. MCINTOSH and Ethel Scott
MCINTOSH; brothers Luke Scott MCINTOSH, Louis Henry MCINTOSH, and Alfred
Frank MCINTOSH. He was survived by his wife, Gracie Rice MCINTOSH, of Sacramento,
CA; two daughters, Kim and Marlow HAYES of Fresno, CA, and Leslie and Jerry
DANIELS of Sacramento, CA; one brother, Cornelius and Gerilynn MCINTOSH of
Oklahoma City; two sisters, Ethel PITTMAN of Stidham and JoAnn VOICE of
Stringtown;
and two grandchildren.
MOORE
OKMULGEE - Glenn March MOORE, Sr., was born March 16, 1924, in Morris at
the Half Moon Ranch. He died in March 2002. Funeral services were held on
March 16 at the First Baptist Church. No information was given on participants
in the service nor the place of interment.
He was the son of William N. and Leona Matlock MORRIS. He attended Euchee
Indian Boarding School with three of his older brothers from first through
fourth grade before returning to Morris for 5th grade. He was active in Music
and Sports at Morris High School and graduated Salutatorian of his class
in 1942. He attended the University of Oklahoma, but transferred to Oklahoma
A & M College at Stillwater in 1943 where he played right end on both
offense and defense football. This team defeated OU in the 1944-45 season
and went on to win the Cotton Bowl. They repeated this performance on the
1945-46 season, beating OU by a score of 47-0 and then winning the Sugar
Bowl. After graduation Moore had to turn down offers to play professional
football because of injuries. He went on to a teaching and coaching career
at Bacone College in Muskogee. He left there to become Postmaster of the
City of Morris and held that position for 37 years, retiring in 1992. He
remained active in
civic affairs even after retirement. He was elected to Creek Nation as
representative of Okmulgee District in 1997 and was elected as first speaker
of the Muscogee Creek Nation National Council under the newly revised
Constitution of Creek Nation. He became affiliated with the Masonic Lodge
and served numerous times as Worshipful Master of Morris Lodge 471. He was
a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Bedouin Temple of the
Royal Order of Nobles of Mystic Shrine in Muskogee. He also was a member
and active in the Morris Lions Club, Secretary of Morris Alumni Association
from 1964-1985 and President from 1986- 1989, Treasurer of the
Morris High School Alumni Association, Secretary of the Morris Cemetery
Association and Lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Morris. He
was a dedicated musician and leader of his own orchestra composed mostly
of his family whom he taught
to play a variety of musical instruments. His band once performed at the
Oklahoma Governors Mansion for then Governor Henry Bellmons 50th
wedding anniversary. Governor Bellmon was a close personal friend. Moore
loved horses and was an expert trainer and roper. His hobbies also included
beadwork.
He was survived by his wife, Jane SUMPTER Moore, who had been a college coed
from Central High School when Moore attended Oklahoma A & M. They were
married September 26, 1946. Also surviving were his four children: Glen,
Marcy, Susie and Lucy; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and
three brothers.
SMITH
CHECOTAH - Bruce Allen SMITH was born November 18, 1978, at Tahlequah. He
died in March 2002. Funeral services were held March 15 at the First
Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Welch officiating. Interment was
at Greenlawn Cemetery.
He was a 1997 Checotah High School graduate. He was a laborer and enjoyed
spending time with his friends and family and playing cards and dominoes.
Preceding him in death were his grandfathers, Owen SMITH and Sam HARPER.
He was survived by his parents, Robert and Sandra Harper SMITH; his sister,
Kendra and Ruston ROUND; grandparents, Mary
Lou SMITH and Junior FREDERICK and Sue HARPER, all of Checotah; aunts and
uncles, Judy and Norman CLARK of Nixon, NV, Sam HARPER of Eufaula, Onzell
and Gerald KEAHBONE and Nathan HARPER, all of Checotah, and Ramond and Joy
GREEN of Coppell, TX; and numerous other relatives and friends.
TIGER
OKMULGEE - Felix Medester TIGER was born May 17, 1925. He died in March 2002.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Dwayne Pratt at Okmulgee Indian Baptist
Church, where Tiger was a member. Pallbearers were Dennis LEEPER, Phillip
Jackson Jr., Phillip Jackson, Mark Jimboy, James Jimboy, Robby Tiger and
Randy TIGER. Honorary pallbearers were Edwin Jimboy, Franklin Beaver, Donnie
McNac and Paul McNac. Interment was at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery.
Tiger was a Baptist Minister and also worked as an aircraft mechanic. He
was the son of Phillip Seba TIGER and Annie Monday TIGER. He was married
to Reta WESLEY on November 12, 1977.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Stanley TIGER and
Amos TIGER; and one son, Michael TIGER. He was survived by by his wife of
the home; two sons, Darrel Bo TIGER of Freemont, CA, and Gary
C. TIGER of Tucson, AZ; a sister, Mae JACKSON of Okemah; and a host of other
relatives and friends.
WATSON
DEPEW - John Thomas Big Tom WATSON was born February 5, 1916,
in Dustin. He died in March 2002. Funeral services were held March 11 at
the Church of God, where he was a member. Pastor Clyde McGuire officiated.
Interment was at the Watson-Wiley Cemetery located three miles north of
Dustin.
Watson graduated from Graham High School east of Holdenville. He served in
the Army during WW II. He later served as constable and Mayor of Dustin
and for a time was a bounty hunter. He was employed by the Oklahoma Turnpike
Authority in Turnpike Maintenance until his retirement. He was a member of
the Bristow VFW Post 3657 and active in the Bristow Indian Community. He
loved to hunt rattlesnakes and to watch his great granddaughter play softball
and basketball.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Santa Anna WATSON and Annie Howell
WATSON, two sisters and two brothers. He was survived by two sons, Tommy
Joe WATSON and Sandy WATSON both of Bristow, and John R. and Judy WATSON
of Anaheim, CA; one sister, Hattie WALLIS, of Bristow; four grandchildren;
eight great grandchildren; his former wife and mother of their two sons,
Dorothy BLUE of Tulsa; and a host of other family and friends.

JONES
EUFAULA - Hattie JONES was born August 26, 1908, at Lenna. She died in April,
2002. Funeral services were held April 13 at the Little Coweta Baptist Church.
The service was officiated by Rev. Ernest Best and Rev. Gary Hawkins. Pallbearers
were A.J. Jones, Terry Jones, Chadd Lemasters, Tim Jones, Jack Jones, and
Carlton Dale Cook. Honorary pallbearers were Paula Hawkins, Bobbie Gail
McLaughlin, Shelley Hunter, Kelly Smith, Regina Cook, Tina Marie Wilkes,
Dana Johnson, Cara Williams, Lindsey Brantly, and
Jackie Stevens. Interment was at the Morrison Cemetery.
Jones was a homemaker and an active member of Little Cussetah Indian Baptist
Church all her life. She served as church treasurer for 21 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Adam JONES, Sr., whom she
married in May 1929 at Eufaula. Also her parents, Major C. and Carrie Wood
MORRISON; son, George JONES; daughter, Tiny JONES; two sisters, Eloise MORRISON
and Hettie ROBERTSON; two brothers, Jackie MORRISON and Bufford MORRISON;
grandson Tommy JONES, Jr., and great-grandchild, Tesse DOYLE. Survivors include
her daughter, Carrie WILLIAMS of Stidham; three sons, Bobby JONES, Adam JONES,
Jr., both of
Stidham, and Tommy JONES of Tulsa; four sisters, Lizzie SPEERS of Dustin,
Dortha REED of Lenna, Leora COPELAND of California, and Mary EDWARDS of Arvin,
CA; one brother, John MORRISON of Ohio; fifteen grandchildren, 28
great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
LEWIS
HENRYETTA - Irene Louise LEWIS was born August 11, 1958, in Henryetta. She
died in April, 2002. Funeral services were held April 10 at Yardeka
Baptist Church, where she was a member, with Rev. Donnie McNac and Rev. Matt
Tiger officiating. Pallbearers were Jeff Long, Michael Winap, Norman McNac,
Todd Chamberlin, Matt Chamberlin, Mark Taylor, Tom Taylor, Kevin McNac, and
Chris Jacobs. Honorary flower girls were Kay Noah, Louise McNac, Pam Chamberlin,
Marcy Hill, and Stephanie Ganote. Interment was at the Lewis Family Cemetery
near Dustin.
She was a longtime member of her church, and an avid sports woman. She enjoyed
playing volleyball and softball and doing beadwork.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Lewis LONG, Sr. She was survived
by her husband, Walter LEWIS, Jr., whom she married May 27, 1978, in McIntosh
County. Also her two daughters,
Roberta HAMRIC of Henryetta and Felicia LEWIS of the home; her two sons,
Santana LEWIS and Jeremy LEWIS, both of Henryetta; her mother, Neta Jacobs
TAYLOR, of Henryetta; two sisters, Jessica WADDLE of Okmulgee and Rena PATTERSON
of Weleetka; four brothers, Jefferson LONG of Arkansas, Andrew LONG, Robert
LONG, and Billy Jack LONG, all of Henryetta; five grandchildren and many
other relatives and friends.
SMITH
CASTLE - Shaun Edmond SMITH was born March 12, 1983, in Okemah. He died in
April, 2002. Funeral services were held April 13, at Prairie Springs Baptist
Church with Rev. Richard Fixico officiating.
Casketbearers were Billy Ray HARLEY, J.D. Harley, Danny Tiger, Wayne Tiger,
Amon Tiger and Jason Smith. Honorary casketbearers were Cody Fitzpatrick,
Ronnie Smith, and Michael Smith. Interment was at the Smith Family
Cemetery.
Smith had resided in Henryetta all his life and attended Henryetta High School
where he was a senior at the time of his death. He enjoyed art, his computer,
his friends and his family.
He was survived by his parents, Paul E. SMITH and Betty Harley SMITH of the
home; two brothers, Ronnie SMITH and Michael SMITH of the home; maternal
grandparents, Tim and Lois HARLEY of Henryetta; paternal grandfather, Eddie
SMITH of Okemah; and many other relatives and fiends.

FISH
WETUMKA - Geneva FISH was born November 21, 1917 in Wetumka. She died in
April 2002. Funeral services were held May 1 at Sand Creek Baptist Church.
No information about the services or place of interment was available.
She was raised in the Wetumka area and attended Hobson and Sacred Heart Boarding
School in Konawa. She was a long time member of Sand Creek Baptist Church
and was a womens leader for many years. She taught Sunday School for
over 40 years, served as church secretary and treasurer, served as Womens
Missionary Union president, and worked many years as an associate worker
for the Muscogee-Seminole-Wichita Baptist Association. In February 1995,
she was awarded recognition from her church for her 54 years service and
dedication.. She also enjoyed quilting and helped raise money for her church
by making quilts.
She was the daughter of Rufus and Gussie Coachman BUCKLEY. She was preceded
in death by her husband, Josie FISH. Also preceding her in death was an infant
daughter; brothers Kozy BUCKLEY, Harvey BUCKLEY, Ledon BUCKLEY, Henry BUCKLEY,
Watie BUCKLEY and Louis BUCKLEY; her two sisters Yvonne MARTIN and Mary BUCKLEY.
Survivors include: Her three children, Melosie BERRYHILL, Paulie STARR and
Curtis SMITH, all of Wetumka; Marie ASBURY of Wichita Falls, TX (relationship
not noted); her sisters, Betty HILL of Okmulgee and Martha ALLEN of Gore;
seven grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews
and other relatives and friends.
LEWIS
HENRYETTA - Walter Kano LEWIS was born January 18, 1941, in Hanna, OK. He
died in May, 2002. Funeral services were held May 22 at Robert Simons Funeral
Home Chapel with Rev. Gene Harjo officiating. Casketbearers were Marvin Lowe,
Steve Randall, Jerry Sumka, Rusty Powell, Barton Looney, Timmy Lowe and Johnny
Micco. Honorary casketbearers were Rev. John Lowe, Robert Soloman, Keith
Cochran, Smiley Barnett, Bobby Gallegos and Willie Randall. Interment was
at the Lewis Family Cemetery.
He was a member and Deacon at Hutchechuppa Baptist Church. He was retired
from the City of Henryetta Water Department. He enjoyed fishing, farming,
traveling and gospel singing.
He was the son of Jonas Lewis KANO and Alice Simmons LEWIS. He was preceded
in death by his parents, an infant daughter; his two brothers, Kenneth LEWIS
and Eldon LEWIS; one sister, Nahka
CARPITCHER; and his two wives, Mary Ann Barnett LEWIS and Alice Harjo LEWIS.
His survivors include two daughters, Leah SOLOMON of Sapulpa and Wanona COCHRAN
of Henryetta; two sons Walter LEWIS, Jr. of Henryetta and Sunday LEWIS of
Sapulpa; a sister, Fannie BARNETT of Dewar; two brothers, Sonnie Lewis KANO
of Dustin and Bunny LEWIS of Hanna; seven grandchildren; and five
great-grandchildren.
LITTLE
MUSKOGEE - Harley Gene LITTLE was born August 25, 1930, in Bearden, OK. He
died in April 2002. Funeral services were held April 24 at First Baptist
Church with Dr. David Becker officiating. Pallbearers were Simon Mitchell,
Robert Smith, Johnny Tonihka, Kenneth Tonihka, Johnny Anderson, Terry Rich,
Jack King, and Eugene Escoe. Interment was at Fort Gibson National
Cemetery.
Little was reared on campus at Bacone College from pre-school to junior college
at the Murrow Indian Childrens Home. He was a member of Oklahomas
45th Infantry Division and served as a medic during the Korean War. He received
a Bachelor of Science degree in education and lettered in academic excellence.
He was employed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs at Jones Academy as boys
advisor in 1954. He served later at Bacone College as Dean of Students, with
the BIA as principal of Carter Seminary and superintendent of Okmulgee Agency.
He worked for Muscogee Nation and served as a National Council Representative
for several years until his death. He also was a basketball, baseball, softball
and football official for 45 years. He also volunteered at the Shrine Tournament.
He was the son of Nora DOUGLAS and Buster LITTLE. He was survived by his
wife, Gerri; daughter, Jeannette ASKINS of Bartlesville; sons, Gene LITTLE
of Carrollton, TX and K.J. LITTLE of Akron, OH; six grandchildren; a brother,
D.S. LITTLE of Sundown, TX; several half-brothers and half sisters; two nephews;
one niece; and many friends and former students.
McGIRT
EUFAULA - Marcus Bear Sampson McGIRT was born March 3, 1980,
at Tahlequah. He died in April 2002. Funeral services were held April 29
at Eufaula Lighthouse Christian Center with Rev. Jack Hopkins officiating
and Rev. Donald Jones and Rev. John Parrish assisting. Pallbearers were Shane
Long, Nathaniel Grayson, Timothy Grayson, Michael Ward, Guymon Marshall and
Joe Lewis. Honorary pallbearers were Lewis McGirt, Cordell McGirt, Charlie
Harrison, Harold Island, and Kevin Pruitt. Interment was at Charles
Cemetery.
He was self-employed and affiliated with the First Assembly of God Church
in Eufaula.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Rose HADLEY, paternal
grandfather, Chester McGIRT; and uncles Marcus McGIRT, Ernest HADLEY and
Sampson HADLEY. Survivors include his parents, Chester Gene and Lillie McGIRT
of the home; three brothers, Lewis McGIRT and Cordell McGIRT, both of the
home, and Arnold BROWN of Arizona; one sister, Gena McGIRT of the home; maternal
grandfather, Mark HADLEY of Arizona; paternal grandmother, Betty McGIRT of
Eufaula; four aunts, Cecelia H. BEGAY and Marie YAZZIE both of Arizona, Chris
ESTEP of Eufaula, and Patricia HUDSON of Oklahoma City; four uncles, David
HADLEY of Arizona, Benson HADLEY of New Mexico, Pat McGIRT of Oklahoma City,
and Mike McGIRT of Eufaula; two nieces, Lisa ESTEP of Eufaula and Betty Ann
McGIRT of Alabama; and a nephew, Joe McGIRT of Eufaula.
RANDALL
TULSA - Okemah B. RANDALL was born December 23, 1925 in Broken Arrow. She
died in April 2002. Funeral services were held May 2 at Haikey Chapel United
Methodist Church with Rev. Bernadine Dowdy officiating and Rev. Mitch Randall
assisting. No other information was given on the services or place of
interment.
She was a 1944 graduate of Broken Arrow High School and attended Bacone College.
She married Lester L. RANDALL, Jr., on November 23, 1949, in Ft. Smith, AR.
She was a lifelong resident of Broken Arrow, served on the Muscogee National
Council, was a member of Tulsa Creek Indian Community, Oklahoma Federation
of Indian Women, and Broken Arrow Indian Pow Wow Club.
She was survived by her husband; her son, Rod RANDALL of Broken Arrow; daughters,
Shonday HARMON of Tulsa and Michelle WOLFVOICE of Broken Arrow; six
grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
WASHINGTON
TULSA - Shelby Cordell Harjo WASHINGTON was born January 25, 2002, and died
the same day. He was survived by his parents, Rachel HARJO and Shanon WASHINGTON,
his brother, Ross HARJO, and many relatives. No information was given on
the place of interment.

BEAR
HAYDENVILLE - Mary Josie BEAR was born in 1943. She died October 11, 2002,
in Tulsa. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Justin Deere and held October
15 at Montesoma Baptist Church. Interment was at the Bear Family Cemetery.
She spent most of her life in he Okemah area. She enjoyed playing bingo,
fishing and watching her grandchildren play sports.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Barney and Effie Harjo LEADER;
her brother Gilbert McCULLEY; and her sister Salina SANCHEZ.
She is survived by her husband, Ashley BEAR, whom she married in 1960. Also
surviving were her stepmother, Liza LEADER; her five sons, Joe of Wewoka,
Joe of Okemah, Timothy of Okemah, Daniel of Henryetta, and Patrick of Okmulgee;
daughter Lisa BEAR of Tulsa; six brothers, Jesse LEADER of Missouri, Eddie
LEADER of Henryhetta, Raymond LEADER of Lamar, Kenneth McCULLEY of Bowlegs,
William McCULLEY of Pryor, and Eddie McCULLEY of Oklahoma City; five sisters,
Lottie Mae COODY of Florida, Marilyn McCULLEY of Moore, and Joyce McCULLEY,
Evelyn McCULLEY, and Sandra McCULLEY, all of Oklahoma City; 23 grandchildren;
one great-granddaughter; and many relatives and friends.
BEAVER
OAKHURST - Leigh Marice BEAVER was born October 11, 1972, in Claremore. She
died July 6, 2002. Funeral services were held July 20 at Oakhurst Indian
Fellowship Church with Rev. Jimmy Alexander and Newman Crowels, Jr. officiating.
Interment was at the Esther Sapulpa Family Cemetery.
Preceding her in death were her father, Sammy BEAVER, her stepfather, Bobby
TIGER; grandparents Alfred and Martha BEVENUE of Sapulpa, Walter BEAVER and
Jeanetta BURNETT of Stidham.
She was survived by her mother, Barbara; her brother, Sheldon BEAVER of the
home; aunts and uncles, Alfred and Wanda BEVENUE of Tulsa, Mike and JoAnn
WHITEHEAD of Glenpool, Patty BANKS of Tulsa, Wanda BEVENUE of Sapulpa, Josephine
HANEY of Ada; and many other relatives.
FISHER
BEDFORD, TX - Johnathon Stephan FISHER was born August 18, 1918, on his
grandmothers allotment land in Dustin. He died September 17, 2002.
No information was given on the date, time or place of the funeral or the
place of interment.
He was raised in Okemah and graduated from high school there. He worked for
Corken Pump Company in Oklahoma City. He joined the National Guard 45th
Thunderbird Division and served in World War II after he joined the Army
Air Force. He was the owner of Fisher Motor Company in Okemah.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Lewis and Ida Tilly FISHER and
his grandmother, Christie Grayson TILLY. He was survived by his wife, Joyce
Butler FISHER, whom he married in 1942; by his two daughters, Ruth LOYD of
Grapevine, TX, and Diana FISHER of Lake Oswego, OR.; four grandchildren and
two great-grandchildren.
OVERMAN
EUFAULA- Grace Hawkins OVERMAN and her twin brother Bud HAWKINS were born
August 23, 1911, at Stidham. She died October 10, 2002. Funeral services
where held October 14 at Little Coweta Baptist Church, where she was a member.
Rev. Gary Hawkins officiated. Interment was at the Hawkins-McIntosh
Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis OVERMAN; her parents, Dan
and Rhoda McGilbray HAWKINS; five sisters, Annie BUCK, Dolly BOYD, Maybelle
SKAGGS, Kigo CARNEY, and Billie GIVENS; her daughter Belle WILSON; and a
grandson, Johnny Mack BROWN.
She was survived by one son, Johnny BROWN of Catoosa; three grandchildren;
seven great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
WILEY
SAPULPA - Harmon WILEY was born May 4, 1916, in Dustin. He died October 4,
2002, at St. Johns Medical Center in Sapulpa. Funeral services were held
October 8 at Faith Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Ogle officiating. The Mvskoke
Nation Honor Guard gave military rites. Interment was at South Heights cemetery
in Sapulpa.
He attended Euchee Mission School and graduated from Sapulpa High School
and the University of Tulsa.
He was a World War II Army veteran, a member of Lions Club and the National
Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was a member of Faith Baptist
Church of Sapulpa and a retired social services representative for the Bureau
of Indian Affairs, Jay Agency.
He was preceded in death by his parents Adam and Melissa Kanard WILEY; his
sister, Harrietta WILEY; and his brother, Mannie WILEY.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Lee, of the home; his children, Grace Ann
SMITH of Edmond, David WILEY of Shawnee, Laura ODELL of Caney, KS,
and Roger WILEY of McAlester; grandchildren, Jeff ODELL of Tulsa, Andrea
SMITH of Edmond, Erin ODELL of Norman, Jordan and Nathan WILEY of Shawnee,
and Chebon and Carmen WILEY of McAlester; and his brother, Adam WILEY of
Monterey Park, CA.
