Vinita, Nov. 17—Services will be
at 2 p.m. Thursday in the First Methodist church for Harvey
K. Averill, editor and founder of the weekly Craig County
Democrat, Vinita, who died Tuesday in his home. He was 74.
Averill, who had been in newspaper work 40 years in Missouri,
Alabama and Oklahoma, was born in Pemiscot county, Mo., in
1873. He came to Vinita in 1926 from Birmingham, Ala.
He founded the Craig County Democrat in March of 1930. He was
editor and co-owner of the firm with his son, Nelbert
Averill.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie, two sons, John, Chicago;
and Nelbert, Vinita; one brother, Robert Averill, Arlington,
Texas; and three grandchildren.
