Russell Carter, Killed, Did Not Know Combinations.
VINITA, Oct. 17.—P.W. McKee, representing the Yale-Towne
Manufacturing company, the same company for which Russell D.
Carter, who was murdered near Bluejacket last Friday
morning, worked, was in this city Wednesday and stated that
the report in several papers that Carter was murdered in
order that the combinations of more than 100 safes could be
obtained, and the safes later could be robbed thereby, is
entirely erroneous. Carter did not have anything whatever to
do with any combinations, McKee said. His work, and that of
all the company’s traveling representatives, he declared, is
merely to oil and adjust the time locks in banks. They are
not allowed to work on any mercantile safes, and do not know
nor have anything to do with the safe combinations. Jasper
S. Martin, cashier of the Farmers State bank, confirmed
McKee’s statement and said that the combination and time
lock are entirely separate, and that Carter never had
anything to do with the combination.
