Liquor Charge Brings Two-Year Sentence.
VINITA, March 11.—Louis Quapaw, 22 years old, member of a
Quapaw Indian family wealthy from zinc and lead mining
royalties, Wednesday was sentenced to two years in the
federal prison at Leavenworth, Kan., after pleading guilty
to possession and transportation of liquor.
Quapaw was arrested in December after an automobile accident
when an investigation revealed whisky in the car.
In February, 1929, an automobile driven by Quapaw killed
Fred Halfmoon, an Indian miner, and in a subsequent trial
Quapaw was given a four-year suspended sentence for
manslaughter.
