VINITA, Jan. 8.—Rescue workers recovered the bodies of Joe
Jenkins and Frank Mankin, Timson Chapel coal miners, late
Wednesday night after eight hours of digging into a mine
slide that trapped the pair early Wednesday.
Sheriff Bryan McDonald, who directed the rescue work in a
small independent mine shaft 15 miles northwest of here,
ordered the bodies brought to Vinita shortly before
midnight.
