Grand River Clearing Job Has Second Mishap.
VINITA, Feb. 12.—Bill Viles, 35 years old, Grove, was
fatally injured Sunday afternoon when pinned to the ground
by a falling tree on a timber cutting project 11 miles
northeast of Bernice. The job is a Grand River dam authority
project.
The tree twisted, snapped from the stump and the butt caught
Viles in the side. The injured man cautioned other workers
not to get excited when they came to his rescue.
“Don’t get excited,” Viles said, “Dig me out, I’m dead,
anyhow.”
Viles died less than a minute after the tree had been pried
away. He is survived by his divorced wife and six children.
It was the second accident within a week on the project,
another worker having received a broken shoulder Wednesday.
He, too, was struck by a falling tree.
