VINITA, Feb. 18.—A physician Friday described the condition
of Jack Shields, 17-year-old Afton highschool senior shot
accidentally near his home late Thursday, as improved but
said the youth is not yet out of danger.
Jack, son of Afton businessman Jess Shields, was wounded
when a .22 caliber rifle he was carrying with a coal scuttle
and bucket of hog feed accidentally discharged. The bullet
punctured his liver and right lung. He had taken the gun
along to kill bird pests after doing his evening chores.
