VINITA, May 16—Eli Kay, White Oak farmer, Monday shot and
killed his former wife, Rosa, 52, and later ended his own
life with the same .32 caliber revolver. Craig County
Sheriff Jim Ince said.
The shootings took place at the Kay farm, two miles
northwest of White Oak, shortly before noon.
Kay, 65, reportedly had been ill and brooding. Two months
ago a divorce was granted his wife. Neighbors said he had
fought the separation and had also sought custody of the
couple’s young children.
Ince said Kay walked into the kitchen at about 10:30 a.m.
Monday and shot his former wife twice in the head and once
in the chest.
Kay then calmly took his 5-year-old son, Larry, to the home
of a neighbor, Mrs. Frank Rogers, who lives north of the Kay
farm. After Kay had gone, Larry told Mrs. Rogers, “Daddy
shot Mommy.”
Mrs. Rogers called Ince in Vinita. A few minutes later the
officers arrived and found Mrs. Kay lying on the kitchen
floor. She was dead. They found Kay dead in the living room.
