Oklahoma’s war casualties were increased
Thursday by army and navy notifications to next of kin that
five more Sooners have been killed in battle, three are
missing and two are now held as prisoners of war in Germany.
KILLED
Lloyd Comer, 27, serving with the
infantry, was killed in action in Germany on March 20, his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lonzo Comer of White Oak, have
received word.
MISSING
Sgt. Robert C. Brown, 19, has been
reported missing in action over Germany since March 17, his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Brown of Big Cabin, have been
notified. A gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress, Brown was in
the air group which led the first American bombing attack on
targets in Berlin and received a Presidential Citation for
an assault on railroad marshalling yards at Muenster,
Germany. He had been in the service about two years.
PRISONERS
Cpl. Aubrey Carnes, reported missing in
Belgium on December 7, is now a prisoner of war, his wife,
Mrs. Lucy Carnes of Vinita, has been notified. He had been
serving with the First army. A brother, Harry Carnes, lives
near Big Cabin.
