A 76-year-old square dance fiddler died in a Vinita hospital
shortly after noon Tuesday as a result of a head injury
received when he was struck by an automobile on U.S. 58
inside Vinita city limits Monday night.
The victim, John B. Marker, Vinita, a former champion
fiddler, was on his way to play for a square dance. His
condition at first was described by hospital physicians as
not serious.
O.B. Patterson, state highway patrolman, said Marker was hit
when he stepped from between parked cars into the path of an
automobile driven by Harold Houston Bunch, 26, Vinita. No
charges were filed against Bunch, who said he did not see
the pedestrian in time.
