VINITA, Jan. 7—Sam F. Parks, former Craig county official
and well-known Democrat party leader died Friday afternoon
in his home in Ormand Beach, Fla. He was 76.
Parks resigned two years ago as county judge because of ill
health. He was educated in the Cherokee nation schools,
attended the Cumberland law school in Lebanon, Tenn., and
began practice in Tahlequah. One of his first public offices
was that of Vinita mayor, where he lived since 1900.
He was a member of the board of education of the Cherokee
nation and an active worker in county and district Democrat
party ranks. Parks also served two terms in the state
legislature from Craig county and served three terms as
county judge.
Survivors include his wife, Alberta, and a grandson, both of
Ormand Beach; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Davidson, Pryor; Mrs.
Bessie Clayton, Nowata; and Miss Maggie Parks, Chelsea, and
a brother, J.T. Parks, also of Chelsea.
Arrangements are incomplete. Services will be in Vinita.
