VINITA—Mrs. Elizabeth N. Barrett, 77, died in a local
hospital at 11:15 a.m. Saturday following a brief illness.
She was the wife of Lee Barrett, retired Vinita businessman,
and the eldest daughter of the late G.W. Clark, Strang,
judge of tribal laws for the Cherokee nation.
Born on her father’s ranch near Strang, in Indian territory,
Mrs. Barrett was a student at the Cherokee Female seminary,
Tahlequah. She taught school for several terms and then was
married in 1895 to Lee Barrett in Vinita.
She was a member of the First Methodist church and of the
Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors, in addition to the husband, include two
daughters, Mrs. Mary Weathers, Grove, and Mrs. Alice Belle
Dyer, Los Angeles; two sisters, Mrs. Howard Flagg, Kansas
City, Mo., and Mrs. Lydia Frayser, Vinita; two brothers,
Ross Clark, Drumright, and Henry Clark, Tulsa, and one
grandson, Walter Lee Midkiff, Chicago.
