VINITA, May 16—Services will be in Burkhalter funeral chapel
at 4 p.m. Saturday for Dr. Robert L. Mitchell, 76, who died
Thursday in his home in Muskogee.
Dr. Mitchell had been on the staff of the Veterans Hospital
in Muskogee from its founding in 1923 until 1948, when he
retired. He was born in Delaware county and attended the
Cherokee Male Seminary, Tahlequah, and remained there as an
instructor several years after graduation.
He attended Arkansas university and was graduated from
Sewanee, Tenn., medical school. Dr. Mitchell practiced
medicine in Vinita and Welch before entering the medical
corps of the army in World war I.
He was a member of the Masonic lodge at Vinita, the
consistory at McAlester and Bedouin Temple Shrine, Muskogee.
Survivors are a son, Robert Thurston Mitchell, Oklahoma
City; three grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. G.L. Hicks;
and Mrs. R.S. Berst, Tulsa; Mrs. Savola Howell, Houston;
five brothers, Lee R. Tulsa; Joe F., Albuquerque, N.M.; Clay
A., Vinita; George W., Welch, and Dure D., Lansing, Mich.
