Craig County’s Former Sheriff Dies at Vinita
 

    VINITA, March 22—Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday for Harry J. Campbell, pioneer Vinita resident and former Craig county sheriff, who died Monday in a local hospital. He was 86. Luginbuel Brothers funeral home is in charge, and rites will be there.
    Campbell, who had resided here for 62 years, was born Oct. 25, 1868, in Missouri. He was a member of the First Methodist church Scottish Rite at McAlester.
    He and his late wife moved to Vinita in 1893. Campbell was employed then in the Couch and Raines livery stable.
    He and his late wife moved to their farm, six miles northwest of Vinita, in 1903 and resided there for 20 years. They moved back to Vinita when Campbell started his first term as Craig county sheriff. He served eight consecutive years as sheriff—from 1921 to 1929.
    After his retirement from the sheriff’s office, he served as a guard at the First National bank for 11 years.
    Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Dola M. Grainger, Arkansas City, Kan.; Mrs. Gladys Magee, Nowata; Mrs. Grace Casto, Vinita, and Miss Helen Campbell, San Antonio, Texas; two sons, Harry L. Campbell, Dennison, Texas, and Carl Campbell, Vinita; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
