VINITA—Services for James Robert Carselowey, 81-year-old
native of Vinita, who died Monday in his home here after a
long illness will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday in Luginbuel
Brothers funeral home.
Carselowey, born ten miles south of Vinita, spent all of his
active life in the newspaper business. He was editor and
owner of the former Adair Citizen for many years and also
was employed on the old Chieftain in Vinita. His newspaper
career covered 54 consecutive years.
Carselowey was regarded as an authority on Cherokee Indian
history and was the author of a series of published
articles.
Survivors include his wife, Anna, two sons, James, Adair,
and Raymond, Los Angeles, Calif.; four daughters, Mrs.
Gertrude Davis, Sand Springs, Mrs. Truman West, Fort Worth,
Texas, Mrs. T.R. Jones, Oklahoma City and Miss Pauline
Carselowey, Fort Worth; two step-sons, James and Jack
Woodall, both of Vinita; one step-daughter, Mrs. Martha
Jolley, Era, Texas; two brothers, C.V., Miami, and Mack,
Vinita; four sisters, Mrs. Susie Duncan, Salina, Mrs.
Flossie Miller, Fort Worth, Mrs. Pauline Patton, Vinita and
Mrs. Evelyn Crouch, Vinita; six grandchildren and one
great-grandchild.
