Mural of Welch #4
|
Recent businesses in the town of Welch and area
activities such as barrel racing, calf roping, in-silage cutting and round
hay bales are pictured in this mural of scenes from the early days of
Welch, Oklahoma. The mural is part of a series located in the Welch State
Bank which are open for viewing by the public. Bank President Charles
Stoner commissioned the work in 1985 to re-vitalize the small
community of Welch by appealing to the pride and sense of history of its
residents. The art works were created by Dr. Nicholas Calcagno, who was
chairman of the Art Department and a Humanities instructor at Northeast
Oklahoma A & M College in Miami at the time.
