The Depew Independent
January 16, 1920

Big Garage For Depew
A deal was made Wednesday morning whereby Hicks & Bland became the owners of lots 12 and 13, block 19 just east of the new post office building.
They will start a building thereon at once. The building will house their garage and will be 50 foot wide and will run back nearly to the alley.
Hicks & Bland are new comers to our town but do not lack faith in our future. The Independent welcomes them to our midst and belleves that there will soon be plenty of work for all the garages we can build.
The two lots were purchased of W.F. Malley and O.D. Lutz, through the Independent man.

The graded roads are almost impassible. The recent snow and rains have softened them up and great holes are worn into them about the only safe way to get over them is in an airplane. We understand that it will not be long until the Trail will be chatted then some of our road troubles will be over.
-----

Two More Stone Buildings for Depew
The first of the week W.F. Malley sold the two lots on the corner of Main and Malley Ave. To O.D. Lutz and Chas. Carson. The gentlemen will start the erection of two stone buildings at once.
One building is to be 50x100 feet facing Main street and the other one will face Malley Ave. and be 30x50 in size.
The larger building will house a garage and the smaller one will be for rent for a store building.
They have not fully decided whether the building will be one or more stories high. Watch Depew grow.

We are having lots of fun with our gasoline engine today and from the looks of things at this writing the Independent may be a little late this week. We will be glad when Depew gets in the electric light class, then we trust our engine troubles will be over.
