Josh Lee Here Last Night
An appreciative audience listened to a fine program at the church
last night. For an hour and a half Mr. Lee kept the audience in
an uproar.
The audience was favored with a couple of songs by Miss Blanche
Fogle which showed the young lady possessed a fine talent.
From a financial standpoint the affair was a success and in the
near future we expect to have Mr. Lee return when we will promise
him a larger audience.

Another New Store
The Globe people after renting the Pierson Hotel building backed
down and gave up their contract, after Mrs. Pierson had the interior
painted and the building prepared for them.
Yesterday Mr. L. E. Bowman and August King formed a partnership
and have rented the building and will open up a general merchandise
store in it as soon as their goods arrive.

New Cement Bridge
Contractor Chas. Carson has just completed a fine bridge across
the ravine just north of the big gas well on the road leading
south from town. This is something that will be appreciated by
those traveling over the road.
-----
Building Fine Home
Contractor A. G. Utter is building a 4 room bungalo for H. R.
Corey on Ladd Avenue. Work will be rushed on this job and the
house will be ready for occupancy in a very short time.
-----
H. Schiller and J. H. Grantham have bought 10 lots just south
of the Church and are intending to build five houses on them.
They have part of the material on the ground for the first one
and will start to work to build in a few days.

It is an ornament to the southwest part of town.

Will Handle School Books
You will not have to go to other towns this year to get school
books. After trying in vain to get someone to handle school books
the writer was persuaded to handle them. Prof. Norvell went down
to Oklahoma City Tuesday and ordered them. We will also handle
tablets, pencils, ink, crayons, pen holders, etc.

New Well South of Depew
The Pulaski Oil company has a well in the southeast corner of
northeast of sec. 3-14-8 that is flowing regularly every half
hour through 1,200 feet of water. The total depth is 2,539-the
sand being first encountered at 2,474. They are moving the boiler
back and getting ready to set the six inch casing. No estimate
has been made on the well as yet, as it is impossible to place
same on gauge until the water condition is overcome.
North of town of Depew, the same company is down 840 feet on the
Lydia Hardhoche allotment in the northeast of the west half of
the southwest of 31-16-8.
Wilcox company’s No. 1 Wiley Kelly in the southeast of the west
half of the southeast of 35-16-8 is drilling at 2,435 feet and
have a chance to get the Wheeler sand at 2600 feet or the Peru
sand at 2700 feet. On the Amos farm in the southwest corner of
the southeast of 34-16-8 they are rebuilding the rig recently
destroyed by fire. They are now at a total depth of 2160 feet.

Building and Loan Enthusiasm Still Working
Monday evening Van D. Stout and Mr. Wood, of Bristow drove to
Depew, as stated in last week’s Independent. We regret that so
few were out to hear what he had to say about a build and loan
association. Mr. Stout has been Secretary of the Bristow Building
& Loan Association for the past 11 years and is thoroughly
qualified to disseminate information along that line.
A program was mapped out and a solicitor will make the rounds
in a few days getting the names and to be taken by the citizens
of the town. It is going to be organized and will be a success.
Make up your mind how many you can take.
