Struck a Real Gusher
Tuesday morning about 3:30 a gusher was brought in by Wilcox in
Section 35-16-8 just east of the county poor farm. The gas caught
fire and the rig burned to the ground.
The drillers had just sharpened the bit and the gas caught from
the hot bricks. It flowed every few minutes Tuesday until toward
evening, throwing oil and burning gas more than 100 feet in the
air.
It is hard to estimate just how much oil and gas the well is making
and will make when the string of tools and lines are taken out
of the hole. Some estimate the well will make several thousand
barrels of oil.
This well is causing lots of excitement in this vicinity and there
is no doubt but what a big oil field will be opened up between
here and Bristow.

Another Permanent Building
We sold the third lot east of the post office yesterday to H.
A. Hobbs, who will immediately start the erection of a stone or
cement building 25x50 feet. An up-to-date restaurant will occupy
the building when completed.

Wilcox Gets Big Fire Out
The H.F. Wilcox Oil & Gas Co. wildcat "gusher,"
which caught fire from the forge when it made its first unexpected
flow day before yesterday, has been quenched, and is steadily
increasing in production, although no gauge can be taken as yet.
Estimates vary from 1,000 barrels to 2,400 barrels dailey. It
is flowing into earthen storage tanks.

The 4-inch gas line from the big gasser just south of town broke
Wednesday morning before daylight. Will McGuffee had it fixed
and running ok in a short time. He says it was nice and cool that
early in the morning.

Son Shoots Father
Tuesday morning early, an 18 year old son of Felix Ary shot and
killed him. The Arys resided a few miles north west of Stroud.
Bad feelings had existed between father and son for some time
and our informant says that fights and quarrels were frequent.
Felix Ary was well known in Depew, being a brother of Bunk and
Vince Ary.

Carmen Jean Burton
Was born January 11th, 1916, the only child of Mr. and Mrs. I.
L. Burton; and departed this life Friday, October 29th, 1:00 p.m.
The death of this little flower, from God’s kingdom was a shock
to the entire community. She was sick but a few days and it was
not thought serious. She was conscious a few minutes before the
angel of death claimed her. Her mother was at Sapulpa, asking
the teacher’s examination when word was wired her that the baby
was not expected to live, and before an automobile could bring
her home the spark of life had flown.
Carmen Jean Burton was a bright little cherub, who had won the
love of all who knew her, and her taking away was a blow to the
community. Funeral was preached at the church by Rev. Broome.
Interment in Bristow cemetery.
Sympathy of the entire community goes out to the father and mother.
CARD OF THANKS
We desire to express our thanks and gratitude to the many friends
and neighbors who were so thoughtful and sympathetic in our hour
of bereavement, and especially Rev. C. P. Broome.
MR. AND MRS. I. L. BURTON
and relatives.
