The Depew Independent
November 12, 1920
Mayor Wynn informs the Independent that the waterworks contractors
informed him that they had purchased a water tower and tank for
Depew’s waterworks. We trust that this is so, as there are a good
many folks saying things about the waterworks that wouldn’t sound
good in print.

Real estate is picking up in Depew. Many strangers are dropping
in and asking the price of town lots. To those who live in Depew
and do not "own their own home" now is a mighty good
time to buy a piece of property before the well north of town
comes in good. After that the price will advance to such an extent
that folks will know this is an oil town. By early and avoid the
rush.

M. E. Greer and L.H. Garriott of Atoka, Oklahoma were here Wednesday
looking over a good town. Mr. Greer and Garriott are President
and Vice-President respectively of the Greer Oil and Gas Company,
in which several of our citizens are interested. Mr. Garriott
is also interested in the Kinch Oil and Gas Company.

of Harvey Schiller the first of the week and will build a residence
thereon and move his family here.

The men were here from Oklahoma City Wednesday to put the plate
glass in the Donaldson brick building that was blown out last
April. They returned to Oklahoma City promising to be back Friday.
They told Mr. Donaldson that they would have to get other settlings
for the glass as the ones he had contracted for were made by an
establishment that was unfair to "union labor". Other
than that we guess the settlings were all right.
-----
E. R. Kaser had his sale Tuesday. W. H. Walker and Clyde Thompson
will hold a sale next Monday November 15. Chas. Rosson and Sam
Hamon will have a sale on Friday November 19th. The Independent
made their sale bills for them.

The price of cotton is lower this week than at any other period
for the past three or four years. There is an embargo placed on
cars for transporting the cotton to the sea-board and a claim
is made that the compresses are overcrowded with the fleecy staple.
-----
Mr. Hobbs, the gentleman who purchased a lot on east Main street
last week, has let the contract for a building 20 x 30. The building
will be of iron and set back far enough off the street so that
a stone building can be built around it in the spring. Utter &
Schwemely have the contract.
