The Rev. Howard L. Baker, 78, Ada, died Sep 14, 1994.
Services will be 2 pm Friday at Trinity Baptist Church, with a prayer service at 7 pm Thursday in the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in High Hill Cemetery under the direction of Criswell Funeral Home.
He was born Nov 30, 1915 in Sardis to Charles and Margaret Benton Baker.
He married Lorena Bevenue on May 10, 1943 in Blackstone, Va.
He attended Jones Academy in Hartshorne and Chilocco Indian School in Arkansas City, Kan. He graduated in l936.
He served in the U. S. Army in World War II with the 45th Division in the European theater. He received the Purple Heart and several campaign ribbons.
He was ordained as a minister in July 1964 at Little Cussetah Baptist Church in Sapulpa. He pastored at the Ada First Indian Baptist Church and was a missionary for 13 years for Chi-Ka-Sha Indian Baptist Association.
He was preceded in death by a son, Charles William Baker and a foster son Bobby Baker Tartsah.
Survivors include his wife Lorena; a daughter Merry Monroe of Ada; a foster daughter Vickie Cox Grimm of Tulsa; a son Howard Baker, Jr. of Sapulpa; a foster son Buddy Tartsah; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Casket bearers will be Tony Walker, Lloyd Parnacher, Tommy Cooper, Ed Lyda, David Bennett and Steven Martinez.

Lorena Bevenue Baker, 81, Ada, died Monday, July 31, 1995.
A prayer service will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel in
Ada. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Taylor officiating. Burial will be in High Hill Cemetery, directed by Criswell Funeral Home.
She was born Feb. 7, 1914 at Beggs to William McKinzie and Cinda Harjo
Bevenue.
She married Howard Lee Baker May 10, 1943 in Blackstone, VA. He preceded her in death Sept. 14, 1994 in
Ada.
She attended Seger schools and Chilocco Indian School. She moved to Ada from Sapulpa in August 1964. She retired from Byng School in 1983. She was a member of Ada First Indian Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Merry Monroe, Ada, and Vicki Cox Begay, Tulsa; two sons, Howard Baker Jr., Sapulpa, and Buddy
Tartsah, Ada; five brothers, Everett Bevenue and Melvin Bevenue, both of Tulsa, Richard
Bevenue, Mounds, Jack Bevenue, Okmulgee, and Pat Bevenue, Sapulpa; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be Tony Walker, Donnie Bevenue, Leonard Monroe, Randy
