Melvin H. Baker
Melvin Harley Baker, of Bristow, died Wednesday, Dec 1, 2004 at
Northside Nursing Home at the the age of 89. He was born Oct 14, 1915 in
Newby to Jess Franklin Baker and LataGreen (Settlemire) Baker.
He was a farmer and served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a
medic. While in the services he received a purple heart, Silver star,
American Defense Service Medal and a Bronze star. He served in England,
Italy, Tunica and Algeria.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother George and sister
Opal Settlemire Hardage.
Survivors are his son Johnny Baker and wife Sherry, of Sapulpa, and
daughter Sandra Ellen Pickering, of Sapulpa; grandchildren Kyle Baker,
Arron Baker, David Baker, Billy and Crystal Jackson, Brad Jackson,
Daniel and Lindsey Jackson, Charlie and Melissa Logan, John Pickering,
Jerod Pickering, Samantha Jackson, Felicia Jones and Wesley Jones; and
great-grandchildren Aaron Drew and Christopher Jackson. Mother of his
children was Betty Juanita Tunnell Baker, deceased 02 Dec 1990.
Funeral services for Melvin have been set for 10 am Friday, Dec 3,
2004 in the Christian Renewal Center in Bristow with the Rev. Wayne
Gimmel officiating. Interment will follow in Magnolia Memorial Gardens
in Bristow.
Serving as casket bearers will be grandsons Kyle Baker, Aaron Baker,
David Baker, Billy Jackson, Brad Jackson and Daniel Jackson.
Smith Funeral Home in Sapulpa is in charge of arrangements.
