Updated: 06 Sep 2009 BAKER, William Malford William Malford Baker, 98, 2020 S Cedar, died Tuesday at Bartlett Memorial Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30am Friday at First Baptist Church with the Revs. David Houchin and Alvin Hedin officiating. Burial will follow at South Heights Cemetery under the direction of Owen Funeral Home. Casketbearers will be Jim McReynolds, Tom Sheriff, Ray Harrison, Ed Higgins, Raymond Tucker and Wallace Crawford. Deacons of the First Baptist Church and members of the Sundown Lions Club will serve as honorary bearers. Mr. Baker was born June 11, 1892, in Choctaw, AR, and lived in the Sapulpa area the past 57 years. He was married to Bertha PATTON, March 19, 1916, in Archie, AR. A graduate of Southeastern State University, Mr. Baker was a teacher and administrator for 30 years before retiring. He was a member of the local and state Retired Teachers Association. He also operated the Baker Insurance Agency for 40 years. He was a past president of the Sundown Lions Club of Sapulpa and was also a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Sapulpa Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha, in 1986. Survivors include daughters Vernoise ANDREWS of Sapulpa and Veretta Jean PITTMAN of Murfreesboro, TN; sister Wilma KIRKENDOLL of Clinton, AR; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. The family will headquarter at 1965 S. Scott the day of the service.
