HORTENSE TAYLOR BARNES

Long-time Cleveland resident Hortense Taylor Barnes, 81, passed away Tuesday, Aug 2, 1994.

Funeral services were held 2 pm Saturday at First Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Barnes was born Oct 30, 1912 in Coffeyville, Kan., the daughter of Ulysses Sherman and Mary Praena Taylor. On Sep 15, 1935, she was united in marriage to Carroll L. Barnes in Tulsa. In 1947, the couple and their family moved to Cleveland from Guthrie.

She devoted her life providing for her family. Mrs. Barnes was an avid gardener and enjoyed crocheting. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Order of the Easter Star, where she held various offices, including Worthy Matron.

Preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Betty Lou and Irene, Mrs. Barnes is survived by her husband Carroll, of the home; one son Loren of Lawton, three daughters, Mary W. Rader of New Market, Md., Margaret C. Shipman of Sapulpa, and Nancy C. Barnes of Coolin, Idaho; one brother Raymond Taylor of El Paso, Texas; one sister Doris Crayton of Dallas, Texas; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
