Max Batchelder, 64, 1303 E. Thompson, died Sunday at his home.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 am Wednesday at Green Hills Mausoleum Chapel with Gerald Rendel and Russell Casey officiating.

Burial will follow at Green Hills Memorial Gardens under the direction of Smith funeral Home.

Mr. Batchelder was born Feb 6, 1928, in Enid. He served in the U.S. Army air Corps from 1946 to 1947. He graduated from Oklahoma A & M in 1951 and married his wife, Chris on June 2, 1957.

Mr. Batchelder worked for the Sapulpa Daily Herald for six years, where he wrote and edited a weekly Sunday magazine section. He worked for the Oil and Gas Journal from 1957 until his retirement in 1989. He was an instructor for Writher Digest magazine, wrote columns for Look-out magazine and serials and was a published playwright and amateur magician who performed throughout the state.

He was a member of Mensa, Interact and First Christian Church.

Survivors include wife, Chris; sons John William Batchelder of Cedar Springs, Mich., and Anthony Lee Batchelder of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughters Christena Rae Dickerson of Tulsa and Elizabeth Lynne Morrow of Sapulpa; and nine grandchildren.

In lieu of other remembrances, the family suggests donations to Green Country Hospice program.
