Harold Bateman

Funeral services for former Cortez resident Harold Bateman, 78, of Chickasha, Okla., will be held Friday, Nov 3 at 10 am in the Parkview Christian Church, with Rev. David Woods officiating.

Harold Bateman was born April 4, 1922 in Drumright, Okla., to Mark Bateman and Martha Humphreys. He passed away Monday, Oct 30, 2000 in Chickasha.

Harold grew up in Garber, Okla. He graduated from the high school there before going into the US Army for two years. He and Juanita Kilpatrick were married in 1945, in Seminole, Okla.

He started working in the Oklahoma oil fields in 1947. Later, in 1956, he was transferred to Cortez, where he continued to work for an additional 23 years. He returned to Chickasha in 1980, and retired in 1985.

Harold loved baseball, basketball, football and golf. He was a great youth baseball coach for about 15 years while in Cortez.

Harold is survived by his wife, Juanita; two daughters, Karen Sue Bateman of Denver and Janet Lee Rakowitz of San Antonio, Texas; sons Kerry Lynn Bateman of Huntington Beach, Calif. and Alan Neal Bateman of Grand Junction, Colo.; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by both parents, one brother and three sisters.

Internment will be in the Covington Cemetery in Covington, Okla. at 2 p.m. under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home (405-224-1344).
