Reverend William Deeds Boyd

The Reverend William Deeds Boyd departed this life in his 85th. Year on Monday December 23, 2002 at his home surrounded by family and friends as a result of complications of Parkinson's Disease. Born in Sapulpa, OK, he graduated from Baylor University in 1941. He enlisted in the US Naval Reserve in the fall of 1941 and served in the Hospital Corps for 2 years. He was selected to attend OCS at Northwestern University in Chicago where he received his commission as an Ensign. He served in the Amphibious Forces in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters during the remainder of the War. He retired from the US Naval Reserves after 38 years of service in 1979. After his Naval service in WW-11, he attended the Church Divinity School of the Pacific and was ordained into the Priesthood of the Episcopal Church on March 17, 1948. He served the Church as rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Holdenville, OK., St Mary the Virgin Episcopal Church in Big Spring, TX., St Thomas Episcopal Church in Orange, VA., and Aquia Episcopal Church in Stafford, VA. Retiring to the Pacific Northwest in 1984, he continued to serve the Church as Interim Rector at Trinity Parish in Everett, St. Thomas Church, Medina, Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Mercer Island, and finally at All Saints, Bellevue.

Preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth, and son, William F., he is survived by son Dr. John T. Boyd and his wife Nancy of Seattle, son, J. Harold A. Boyd and wife Donna of Culpepper, VA., daughter Mary E. Boyd-Gould and her husband Richard of Seattle, WA., eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for Friday, January 3, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 4400 86th Ave SE., Mercer Island, WA 98040. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be directed to Emmanuel Episcopal Church - Social Action Committee or Capital Campaign Fund.
