R. L. (Ekie) Briggs, 82, of Tulsa, died Tuesday at his home.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 pm Friday, at first Presbyterian Church Memorial Chapel with Rev. John Nelsen officiating.

Burial will follow at Memorial Park Mausoleum under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

He was born May 10, 1910 in Mannford. A graduate of Sapulpa High School, he was an all sports athlete and organized the first Sapulpa High School Golf team. He also attended Tulsa University.

Mr. Briggs was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Oaks Country Club, Petroleum Club, Pipeliner Club, and Deep Rock Oilers National Softball Champions. He was a former employee of Deep Rock Oil Company and Grove Regulator Company.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lorna, and his brother, Charles (Hap) Briggs.

Survivors include a daughter, Kay Lynn Turner of Wichita, Kansas; brother, Dale Briggs of Blytheville, Arkansas; sisters, B. Lois Briggs of Tulsa, Jewell Eubanks of Ventura, Calif., Betty Cosenza of Rio Del Ray, Calif.; one grandson, numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will headquarter at the Louise Briggs residence, 503 S. Oak.

Funeral services for R. L. (Ekie) Briggs were held this afternoon in the First Presbyterian Memorial Chapel with the Rev. John Nelsen officiating.

Entombment followed at Memorial Park Mausoleum under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

Serving as casket bearers were Gene Dunbar, Carter Gramham, Sam Johnson, Scott VanDyke, Sig Lawson and Larry Werers.

Honorary bearers were Kermit Carter, Jack Oliver, and Dr. R. C. Romeo.

Mr. Briggs died Tuesday at Tulsa.
