PRYOR, Okla. — Former Sapulpan George E. Connor, 85, of Pryor died Friday.
Services are today at Pryor Methodist Church.
Burial was at Sahkell Cemetery Haskell, Okla., under the direction of Wilson
Conningham Funeral Home, Pryor.
Mr. Connor was born in Fletcher, Okla., and moved to Sapulpa as a boy.
He graduated from Sapulpa High School and from Oklahoma A&M College,
Stillwater, which is now Oklahoma State University. He attended college from
1922 to 1926 and earned 10 athletic letters during that time, including four in
basketball, three in football and three in baseball. He played an end in
football, a guard in basketball and shortstop in baseball and was a Southwest
Conference, all-star selection in each sport.
After his college career, he played in a semi-pro football game in Tulsa against
Red Grange’s traveling professional team. Grange also is know as the
“Galloping Ghost.”
Connor was employed by Tulsa County Health Department and Meadow Gold Milk Co.
He retired from Meadow Gold in 1963.
Survivors include wife Eliza Jane Connor; son George E. Connor II of
Albuquerque; daughter Nancy Jane Connor Fenton of Houston; and four
grandchildren.
