George Benjamin Crabtree & Jessie Myrtle Fentor Crabtree

George Benjamin Crabtree died Sunday morning in Tulsa hospital. 

He had lived in Tulsa 2 years. 

Born in Mason, TX and came to OK in 1891. First settled in Marlew. After his marriage, lived in Oklahoma Panhandle. Later moved to Shamrock in the oilfield boom days. Was first chief of police at Shamrock. In 1932 moved to Drumright where he served as deputy sheriff of Creek county for several years (during Pretty Boy Floyd's era). During administration of late Gov. Ernest W. Marland, Mr. Crabtree was food relief administrator for Oklahoma. Retired 15 years ago and moved to Tulsa in 1953. Was a member of Drumright Baptist church and of the Odd Fellows lodge. 

Survivors include the widow, Jessie, of the home: four sons - H. L. Crabtree; Bud C. Crabtree; James T. Crabtree of Anchorage, Alaska; and Loyd C. Crabtree of San Francisco, CA.; two daughters - Mrs. Iva Payne, Drumright and Mrs. Lela Gilbert; two brothers - Dale Crabtree of Drumright and Bud Crabtree, Cache; a sister - Mrs. Vera Beckwith of Wichita Falls, TX; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Mrs. Jessie Myrtle Crabtree, 83, of 801 North Ohio, was given funeral services Thursday at the Church of Christ on West Broadway. E. A. Bright, former local minister now serving Oilton Church of Christ, officiated. 

Burial was in Shamrock Cemetery beside her husband, Ben, who died about 12 year ago. 

Mrs. Crabtree died Tuesday, Nov 5 [1968] in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lee Gilbert, in Tulsa. Mrs. Crabtree had been making her home with her daughter the past year. She had been in poor health the past several years. 

She was born in Jacksboro, TX, March 5, 1885 and moved to Drumright from Shamrock in 1931. 

Survivors are four sons and two daughters, two sisters, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Sons are H. L. Crabtree of Grove, Bud Crabtree of Tulsa, James Crabtree of Pomona, Calif and Loyd Crabtree of San Francisco, Calif. Daughters are Mrs. J.E. Payne of Drumright and Mrs. Lee Gilbert of Tulsa. Sisters are: Mrs. Len (Ora) Wilson of St. James, MO and Mrs. Charley (Ollie) Birlew of Okmulgee.
