LAKE JACKSON - Margaret Evelyn Crossland, 79, died Sunday at Village on the Creek Health Care Center in Clute.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Shady Oaks Assembly of God Church, 128 Flag Lake Dr., Lake Jackson, with Dwayne Manes and Pastor Craig Buck officiating. The burial will be directed by Freeport-Lakewood Funeral Homes.

Mrs. Crossland was born in Kiefer, Okla., to Minnie May Payne Pickett and Otis Albert Pickett. She married Max C. Crossland, who preceded her in death. Late in life, she moved to Abilene from Ava, Mo., and enjoyed a late career at Abilene State School as a behavior modification administrator. She moved to Lake Jackson, where she lived while married, in 1980. There she served as a substitute teacher for BISD.

Survivors include one son, Mike Maxey; five daughters, Anne Herring of New Braunfels, Kay Barcak of Angleton, Paula Lawhon of Freeport, Lou Brantley of Clute, and Carolyn Jones of of Clute; four sisters, Dorothy Rucker of Abilene, Pauline Funk of Whitesboro, Mary Pittman of Brownwood, and Berta Fields of Abilene; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three nieces; and two nephews.

Memorials may be sent to Shady Oaks Assembly of God Church or VNA & Hospice, 201 E. Mulberry, Angleton, 77515.
